Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
Only done it twice, and found both times it was fine. Yes, there are traffic lights, but no hold ups, as such. and the last stretch moving from route 4 onto 338 was clear both times, until we turned off again onto a tollway and then on to Rama9. This, for me, is a major advantage over Rama2 in any case, as its when I get into Bkk, generally turning off at Port, that the real hold up's start. This just might become a preferred option into town, using Rama2 on the return journey.
Talk is cheap

Wow!!! Does this turn the latest incident into a murder enquiry?
Concrete chaos: Maniac hurls slab from Bangkok’s Bang Na bridge
The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) has confirmed that a chunk of concrete that shattered a car’s windscreen earlier this week was deliberately thrown from a pedestrian overpass – and not a result of any structural failure.
The shocking incident unfolded on Tuesday, April 29, on Bang Na-Trat Road, prompting immediate fears that debris had fallen from the Burapha Withi Expressway, also known as the Bang Na Expressway. However, those fears have been firmly put to rest.
EXAT dispatched an engineering team to inspect the entire area following reports that a “concrete-like object” had smashed into a passing vehicle. In a statement released yesterday, May 2, the agency said there was no sign of structural damage or spalling on the expressway.
Instead, CCTV footage told a very different story.
According to EXAT, security camera recordings captured a person deliberately throwing the object from a pedestrian bridge directly onto the road below, striking the vehicle as it passed beneath.
“This was not due to infrastructure failure,” EXAT clarified. “It was the result of a reckless and dangerous act by an individual.”
The footage has now been handed over to local police, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the culprit. EXAT has pledged full cooperation with law enforcement to ensure the perpetrator faces legal consequences.
No injuries were reported in the incident, but the attack has raised serious concerns over pedestrian overpass safety and the vulnerability of motorists to random acts of violence, reported The Nation.
Police urge the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity or similar incidents.
“If you witness anything unusual, please call the EXAT Call Center immediately at 1543. Timely reports help us act quickly and ensure justice is served.”
The incident serves as a chilling reminder of the risks posed not just by road conditions, but by people with dangerous intent.

They caught him last night, and he confessed. Criminal history and a bit of a nutter. They're going to charge him with attempted murder. Good.
Khaosod English

Only 'attempted' murder? His victim died, or was that down to the hospital treating the victim with the wrong blood type?

Different incident, the one where the piece of bridge fell off earlier in the week was the one who died, and got the wrong blood as well.

Really? Another incident? Is there no end to this concrete madness? I honestly thought it was the same incident, so that's yet another one with lumps of falling concrete.

If it's Tuesday, it must be Rama II !
Thai Enquirer
Two vehicles collided with a cable from the construction of the Rama 2 elevated road in Mueang Samut Sakhon District last night.
A pickup truck and a trailer truck struck the hanging cable, causing damage. No injuries were reported.
Workers said the cable control machine malfunctioned. While attempting to secure the cable, they noticed the cement platform cracked, causing the cable to fall and collide with the passing vehicles.
The incident is considered negligent, causing property damage, and the company will compensate for the loss.

Just gone up on the airport bus.
Lots of roadworks from samut songkran up, so plenty of use of the frontage road. Not the quickest trip, but also appeared to be less traffic than usual.
What was noticeable, or is it only me that hasn't seen them before ?, were large hanging green baskets down the side of many columns and gantrys. They appeared to be there to catch things falling from the top of the columns.

Took the Nakhon Pathom route last week instead. I'm done taking chances.
Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
Just returned from Nakhon Pathom via Ratchaburi hwy 4, and was surprised how light the traffic was south of 4 / 35 intersection. I expected a lot more, since 4 day weekend for some, or people cutting out of BKK early for a 3 day weekend.
TBH, really didn't seem that much heavier than regular weekday. Some bottlenecking at construction areas, but alll in all, not bad.

Our daughter just took the train to Bangkok, saying driving was too dangerous. Honestly, with all the craziness going on these days cant blame her.
With all the craziness going on, the fact that there's no traffic on it, actually makes me less confident driving on the elevated highway when with traffic...
Nakon Pathom is my way to go for the coming period

I'm off to Chonburi for the next 2 weekends - its Rama II or a massive detour.

Oh wow!!! This is getting too close for comfort - I've missed these events by a couple of hours previously. I've no idea if Ladkrabang was on our route last Saturday, but if it was, we'd have missed it by minutes.
Large concrete slab falls on car in Bangkok's Ladkrabang, causing damage
A large concrete slab fell from a truck onto a car in Ladkrabang, causing significant damage and minor injuries to the driver.
The incident occurred at 11.09pm on Saturday at the entrance of Soi Ladkrabang 54, Ladkrabang Road, Bangkok.
The accident involved a white Honda car, which was struck by a large rectangular concrete slab, shattering the windshield and severely damaging the bonnet and front bumper. Nearby, an 18-wheel truck carrying concrete slabs for bridge construction was parked.
Initial investigations revealed that the slab slid off the truck during transportation, hitting the car following behind. The construction contractor promptly moved the slab and attended to the affected driver, who sustained minor wrist injuries.
Authorities are currently questioning the truck driver to determine the exact cause of the incident. The contractor has assured that measures will be taken to prevent such accidents in the future.
