What are current bike hire rates?

Post by HuntingTigers »

I'll be back again in HH in September for a month and I want to hire a motor bike to get around.

Info required as to the best companies to try / rates / ones to avoid / where hire places are located etc.

Many thanks in advance,
HT.
It may be rubbish - but by golly it's British rubbish.

There's a lady with bikes for hire in Subhamitra hotel. Automatics and manuals. Used to be 150/day but the XTG negotiated.

I think a good rule of thumb no matter where you rent in Thailand is to do a good walk around inspection and have the lessor note any existing damage, not matter how small or insignificant. Especially true if you need to leave a large deposit. I also don't trust these places concerning engine maintenance which you could get blamed for as well if something blows. If any smoke beyond a puff when first started, reject it. Not a bad idea to have them check the oil level as well with you watching. Pete

Tom who owns the Boat restaurant near the night market does a good deal on bikes.

Lovely Thai fella, will drop it off where you're staying and speaks great English.

I'll post or PM prices, email and phone if you want. My Old Man uses him and he's exhausted the Internet trying to find cheaper deals on anything possible!

Pong next to the BP bar in soi 80 has a good selection in a straightforward and honest fashion.

I'll second that. He is a genuinely decent bloke, as is his wife (Jee?). 'The Boat' is my favourite place to sit with a beer, read the paper and watch the world go by. Bikes are well maintened by the resident 'bike expert' at the place, (think his names Don, longish haired waiter).
If it's within arms reach, there's nothing to worry about!!

The smaller Thai set-up's only charge 3,000B/month for a new scooter like a Mio/Fino. They'll no doubt as more (4,500!?) if just a farang asks, so you may need a Thai to help you get the cheaper price.

The guy at the top of Bintabaht outside the temple does them but they're absolutely everywhere, from bars owners to most Thai-style apartment blocks. Apart from in town, there seems to be a lot of' for hire' signs in Soi 94 and the two Soi 88's.
