Minivan, bus and road accidents
Re: Minivan, bus and road accidents
Wow!!!
Truck falls through damaged bridge in Prachuap Khiri Khan
Three days after warnings were issued about the condition of a bridge in Bang Saphan district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province, a truck carrying rubber wood fell through a large hole on February 22.
Prior to the collapse, a local had posted warnings on February 19 about the deteriorating state of the bridge in a Facebook group. The post alerted residents in Prachuap Khiri Khan to the risks on the elevated U-turn road on Phetkasem road, leading to the first Huakheun bridge, which had previously been rebuilt but quickly became unusable once again.
Consequently, the old bridge was repaired and reopened for public use.
The old bridge has shown significant deterioration, with cracks and uneven surfaces reaching up to one foot in difference, making it unsuitable for large vehicles. Despite these concerns, no action was taken by local officials, prompting residents to continue to use the bridge at their own risk.

A tour bus carrying 36 Thai and foreign tourists crashed into an electricity pole shortly before 4 AM on March 14. The accident occurred on Phetkasem Road (inbound to Bangkok) near Pho Kaew Rice Mill underpass in Khao Yoi district, Phetchaburi province. All passengers sustained injuries.
Police Colonel Thip Khengkhum, superintendent of Khao Yoi Police Station, coordinated with Phetchaburi rescue units to assist the injured tourists - 15 Thais, 12 Myanmar nationals, and 9 Americans. The injured were transported to Khao Yoi Hospital and Phra Chom Klao Hospital in Phetchaburi, with three requiring admission.
Authorities charged the 58-year-old driver, Rakchat, who admitted to falling asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to lose control and hit the electricity pole. Tourists with minor injuries waited at Khao Yoi Police Station where officers provided them with noodles for breakfast while they awaited a replacement tour bus.

This makes Thailands roads look pretty safe - the first police car to crash can probably be understood, the second one less so and the third is almost unbelievable - talk about driving without due care and attention!!

Re: Minivan, bus and road accidents
And another school bus goes up in flames - lucky they were all checked so vigorously recently, and dangerous vehicles taken off the roads
Fire on bus carrying pupils on field trip, all safe
TRAT - A fire broke out in the rear compartment of a bus carrying students home from a field trip shortly before they arrived back at their school in Bo Rai district.
Sawang Boonchuayluea Thammasathan Trat, a rescue volunteer unit, said the double-decker was carrying 35 students and seven teachers back to Chumchon Wat Bor Ploy Ratrangsant School on Monday.
The fire occurred when the bus was less than 10 kilometres from the school.
The driver, Methee Phosi, quickly stopped the bus and opened all the doors, including emergency exits, allowing them to rapidly exit the vehicle, the rescue team said. All on board were safe and well.
The driver said students had complained about the stuffy air before smoke, followed by flames, was noticed at the rear of the bus. He suspected a short-circuit in the air-conditioning system had caused the fire.
The bus was one of two that took Prathom 6 students from the school on a field trip to Thammachat bay in Laem Ngob district.
The Education Ministry demanded maximum transport safety after a bus carrying students from a school in Uthai Thai on a field trip was engulfed in flames in October last year, killing 23 people, 20 of them pupils. Long-distance trips for elementary school students are also discouraged.

Traffic accidents killed 200 people during six days in the Songkran festival holiday period from April 11 to 16, with Bangkok recording the highest number of road fatalities.
Kachorn Srichawanothai, deputy permanent secretary for the interior, said on Thursday that the fatalities resulted from 1,377 traffic accidents in which 1,362 people were injured.
“Motorcycles are the most common kind of vehicles involved in the accidents, accounting for 83.32% of the incidents… I would like people to wear helmets whenever they ride on motorcycles and please seriously follow traffic rules,” he said.
From April 11 to 16, the southern province of Phatthalung had the most traffic accidents at 52. The northern province of Lampang recorded the highest number of injured people, 56. Bangkok saw the highest road fatalities at 16, he said.
On April 16 (Wednesday) alone, Mr Kachorn said there were 155 traffic accidents, 22 fatalities and 149 injured people. Lampang had the most accidents and the highest number of injured people, at nine for both. The most common cause of the accidents was speeding.
Saharat Wongsakulwiwat, deputy director-general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said most Songkran travellers had already returned to Bangkok and major provinces.
Pichet Kunathammarak, director-general of the Department of Rail Transport, said that people took about 1 million train trips on Wednesday.
