Driving standards..Thailand Vs Russia.
Re: Driving standards..Thailand Vs Russia.
I spent 2 months hitching lifts in cars in Moscow and St.P, sometimes in blizzard conditions and was impressed/alarmed by the speed at which they drive. It was great to just flag down any passing car, usually a clapped out Lada, agree the price and off you go. Since I'm a bit of a speed freak, it was great fun, except for the breakdowns.

Interesting watching how the drivers didn't jump out to kill him and how many tried to help him. Wouldn't be surprised if he died in the final fall.Ginjaninja wrote:I'm going to give the poor soul the benefit if the doubt and assume his throttle was sticking.

I was thinking totally staged. For the first 2 bumps, nobody even got out to inspect the damage. He was out of shot for a few seconds on the 3rd bump. It just doesn't happen that way in real life ..... or maybe pharvey, Dr Mike or midlandmike could confirm otherwise in respect of China.

By all accounts, he suffered only minor (or should it be miner ) injuries.......MrPlum wrote:Ginjaninja wrote:Wouldn't be surprised if he died in the final fall.

Incidentally; I'm heading to China very soon via Hong Kong (visa). Any advice?
Off topic I know... I will be travelling to Shekou then flying to Hainan (Sanya).

Re: Driving standards..Thailand Vs Russia.
I've lived in China for a year now. My advise is stay off the motor bikes. The drivers here have absolutely no respect for riders here. Not that's it's much better in thailand but at least in Thailand everyone know's where the bike should be (on the slow side of the road) In China the riders are animals. I being an avid rider with a 650cc back in Thailand will avoid two wheels here at any cost.
Why is it called 'after dark' when it really is 'after light'?

Seems like a 'Candid Camera Stunt'. If it's not then it should be.

For my opinion, driving in Thailand much more pleasant than in Russia. Yes some times thai people do some weird stuff when driving, but nothing like that:Big Boy wrote:We have a few 'active' Russian members now. It would be very interesting to hear their opinion.

Not Russia, but very unusual to see comments like the following from a Thai:

.....................Yes, we're all aware that it has been scientifically proven that Bangkokian drivers are missing the part of the brain that would enable them to: 1) Follow rules; 2) Distinguish between red and green; 3) Generally not be an entitled asshole who thinks that the roads were built specifically for them. ........................

Read that article earlier in the day and yes, I too was quite surprised at the language used. One wonders if the punctuation stems from watching too many 'B' grade movies (you know, the ones that don't move without some colourful language) or that she herself was able to spend some formative years in a different country picking up the culture...
