Re: Thai Driving License renewal
Having lost one of my licences, does anyone have a definitive procedure for getting it re-issued.
I've heard that a police report is required but other than that I have no info.

Re: Thai Driving License renewal
When I renewed my five year licence last August, all I needed was a residence letter, medical certificate and passport copies (main page and latest extension page). I don't recall having to give them a copy of the old licence (just the licence itself) but I may have mis-remembered that and taking a copy certainly wouldn't hurt, just in case.migrant wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 3:10 pm Is this all that is needed to renew the 5 year license?

I don't have a lease agreement (I live in a house owned by my daughter) or yellow book so I didn't take those. I also needed to show them the QR code to indicate I'd completed the online e-learning course.
I did the renewal at Pranburi DLT office but I think it depends where you live. If you're in Hua Hin you can go to Pranburi but if you live closer to Prachuab you could go there. For Cha-am I suppose you would go to the office in Cha-am.

Re: Thai Driving License renewal
Police report is no longer required. Book an appointment online using the smart queue app or web site. You'll probably need all the other usual stuff required to renew as well.HHTel wrote:Just giving this a bump. Has nobody ever lost a licence and applied for a new one?

Thanks for that.

That link won’t work for me and the app appears to be in Thai only - I can’t find any option for English?

The app (on my Android phone) is in Thai and English, and registration for foreigners at least is in English.

Re: Thai Driving License renewal
I managed to renew my licenses (car and m/cycle) this morning at Cha Am.
Points of note;
The whole process took about 1hr 15m including the colour and reaction tests (both pretty pointless) and had already completed my online video refresher test.
I had made an online appointment which was a complete waste of time as they were dealing with applicants on a turn-up basis.
I used my Yellow Book as proof of address that they were happy with - no need for a letter from Immigration
The doctors letters included a stethoscope test (my heart was obviously beating) and a “follow my finger” eyesight test - they accepted my weight and height measurements as gospel - 80 Baht per certificate.
During the application process, the lady doing the processing managed to “misplace” my old licenses but said not to worry, she’d still issue my new ones!!
I’m now good until December 2029!!

Re: Thai Driving License renewal
I have to renew my 5 year car license in April so I just took the online 'training' video course. What a mess.
The old one at the government offices where you just watched an hour's worth of death on the roads was better, at least you could just scroll your phone while sitting there.
One exact same question is asked twice in different parts of the video (the video is in four parts). The answer is 15 metres the first time and 30 metres the second time. Great. I answered differently for both as they asked, and of course passed the test.
"You should be on the offensive when driving". They actually say those words. I sh*t you not.
The concept of tailgating (explanation of the word) isn't given until part 4 of the video, but the question about tailgating is asked in part 1!
Apparently you should never use your high beams at night when there is oncoming traffic (I think we all know this). Oh, but you CAN flash your high beams and temporarily blind them, if it's to tell them that they have their high beams on and are blinding you. Mutually Assured Destruction, anyone?
And I now know that flashing your high beams several times at the car in front is the correct adjunct to using your indicator before you overtake someone at night. Personally I love high beams flashed into my eyes via my rear view mirror, but I didn't realize it was actually required driving etiquette.
I could go on, but that's enough to give you a fair idea.

Re: Thai Driving License renewal
My driving licence, the one that I obtained 5 years ago after starting this thread, expires at the end of this month. I renewed it at Pranburi last week.
My retirement visa expired during my stay in the UK during Covid, and since then I have returned to Thailand on 60 day and 90 day tourist e-visas, I will renew my retirement status later this year.
The validity of a driving licence renewed using a tourist visa is for 2 years, not 5.
Pranburi asked me to do the online training video and then book an appointment to come in, do some further tests and then receive the renewed licence.
The online video is just as 404cameljockey described it above. Its a contradictory mess, but I passed.
It only works on a smartphone, not a tablet. I initially used an android tablet, with the latest android version, but it would not issue the online "pass confirmation" QR code needed to present when attending the transport office for the tests and licence. I had to do the test sgain on my smartphone. I then booked an appointment using the online booking service and turned up on the day.
Paperwork was presented, the medical certificate ( my "medical" was done by the receptionist at a doctors clinic on Phetkasem, it was one of those Botox cosmetic factories, but they were happy to take my blood pressure and print out an official looking certificate for B120.), my yellow tabien baan confirmed my address, and of course they needed to see and photocopy my passport.
Then its on to the 3 tests.
The colour blindness test, the brake pedal reaction test and the visual alignment test.
These are done in a little alcove in the waiting room using new electronic machines rather than the decrepit old fairground ones that were used 5 years ago, but as usual you are watched with interest by everyone in the waiting room when being tested.
Once the tests were passed, my photo was taken, I was relieved of B205 and was given a nice new licence.
The whole process proceeds in a slow but efficient manner overseen by dour faced no nonsense civil servants no doubt fed up with answering the same questions day in day out and dealing with the pleas of those who turn up late for their appointments or without the required paperwork.
I was there for about 90 minutes.
The transport office is clean, the waiting area reasonably comfortable with powerful air conditioning and is home to what must be the cleanest toilets in the country!
All in all it was a stress free experience, just the opposite of a visit to the immigration offices, and was followed by a delightful early afternoon seafood feast on the long beach south of Pak Naam Pran.
