Rama 2 and collapse

Post by Hahuahin »

Has anyone driven Hua Hin-Bangkok after the concrete segment and crane on Rama 2 collapsed during construction? If so, does it affect traffic flow, and should I allow extra time when traveling to Suvarnabhumi?
Thank you,

We drove through today. It’s all back to normal. No more diversions.

I forgot to mention. I came back late night from Bangkok Sunday night, and the night time closures of the main carriageways between Bangkok and Samut Sakhon are still in force. Fortunately for me, I was late enough for the main congestion to have cleared.

I drove back from Bkk yesterday, leaving at 11.15, and it took about 3.5 hours. There were no roadwork hold-ups, as such, it was just down to dense traffic, although it was always moving, which started to ease as I passed Samut Sakhon.

Where is that new upper deck going to end. I wouldn't think it would go all the way to Cha-Am?

This is a guess, but I think it ends just before HWY 375 which heads up toward Ratchburi. Also under construction is an interchange between 375 and Rama 2.

I am assuming (especially as we've been promised it will complete this year) that it will go to Samut Sakhon.

I was in a taxi at the weekend, so I was really able to look at what was going on with the roadworks. It's a hell of a construction. Along the section from Samut Sakhon to Bangkok, at one stage the main carriageway was 4 lanes wide. We were on the inner road that was also 4 lanes wide, and there's whatever they are building above. Of course, that section should be well catered for when complete, but we'll have the situation of at least 11 lanes, filtering in to 4 if you continue towards Samut Songkhram. I'm sure the planners have a cunning plan for that.

Very good guess by Ratsima! It actually starts / ends by a minor route, 2041, that heads south of 35. A little further west, as stated by Ratsima, are the roadworks for the connection between 375 and 35.

You've totally confused me with 2041 and 375. I've been checking Google Maps, and when I put in e.g. Highway 375, it puts me in Nevada. Are there any place names near these points as an easier reference please?

[Edit] I've found 375.

[Edit2] I've now found 2041.
