To be honest the camera could be either. I still haven't actually seen a camera despite driving through many times. Therefore the probability is a mobile device I guess ??

It would appear there are new cameras on the bridge Noth of Hua Hin hospital on both sides of Petchkasem Road. They look a little complex to be just for traffic control.

I'll be off to Ratchaburi soon - I will have everything switched on and will report back tomorrow. Personally, I don't see a problem if we stick to the speed limit, but nice to know because we all lose concentration from time to time.

Well, BB, have fun. That cheap and cheerful made in China radar detector is basically a superhet set and will pick up everything from your 7-11 door opener to your anti collision and side mirror proximity detection on many newer cars. Also I don't expect it will have any laser detection diodes. The newer radar/laser detectors have built-in software to filter out these unwanted signals, but you pay the price.
Stick to the speed limit for now, I do. Well, most of the time. Hehe.

It doesn't sound off for anything unusual other than automatic doors when I go past a 7-11, which is fine - I'm used to that . I did have a list of the various frequencies it detects, but no idea where that is now.

Very few of the new speed cameras brought a reaction, but what I did notice (during daylight, of course), every warning I received, there was one or more camera, but also a round, black glassed thing that looked like a lamp - I guess that contains the speed sensor. Certainly the set up near HHH has one of these black lamp type things, if anybody wants a better look - I had no warning on either my app or detector for that one, so I guess very new.

Today I received a further four speeding tickets for the same section of Phetkasem Road where there is a recent 80 kph limit south of Hua Hin. If I was in the UK I probably would have lost my driving license by now - is there anything similar here in Thailand where they tot up the tickets?

What is also interesting is that this is a different camera location than before. My first two tickets had photos of the front of my car taken from a height above the car. Today's photos indicate that the camera is close to the ground as the angle is aiming high into the front of my car. Also it is clear that the camera is located in the central reservation between the two carriageways. As I trundle along at 80 kph most cars go thundering by - someone is making a fortune !!

Yes. You start with clean sheet of 12 points. Offences deduct points.

Yes, I think we all start with 12 points and depending upon the severity of your offence, you are losing 1 or 2 points each time. When you get to zero, you lose your licence for a period.

At least, that is the system that was supposed to come in. Whether it did or not, I don't know.

As an aside, I did the trip to and from Ratchaburi again yesterday - my app is still advising an increasing number of cameras.

berlinmichael, I travel that road daily, and apart from the cameras near Vana Nava, I can't spot any cameras. I'd love to know where they are.

What I will say, is when I first came to Thailand, I didn't have a clue what the speed limit was and drove at UK speeds on motorways. Yes, I was caught by a mobile camera up in Isaan. He was sat in between carriageways, dressed as a workman, but with a tell tale camera in front of him - I saw him too late.

Since you're receiving it in the mail, this would indicate a dedicated automated camera triggered by either radar or laser. The handheld laser or radar teams would typically have a traffic stop further up the road.
I very much doubt the authorities are using MRCD photo radar as that would be quite expensive to set up and is a short range thing, but one never knows what kind of budget they have. Definitely K and Ka band radar, as well as laser in it's many flavors.
I don't drive upcountry as much these days so I won't be upgrading to the latest and greatest but I am using what I would consider a mid-range detector that is around two years old and in the price range of 200+ usd. It's not so much the fines but the inconvenience.
Plus, I'm a geek for tech..

I'm just back from my daily trip to Khao Tao. That entire stretch of central reservation has absolutely nowhere for somebody to hide/cover from the sun. No self-respecting Thai, let alone police officer would spend that long standing in the sunshine.

Could it have maybe been a camera car? Were all 4 photos taken from the same location, or differing locations?

Back in the early 90's when the Asian highway was still a toll road, they would have unmarked cars at the side of the road. I also remember one guy perched halfway up a tree with his radar gun, just after the toll station almost to Ayuthaya. Once spotted a guy in the center divider ditch just before Saraburi..
They can be anywhere, but usually close to some kind of power source like a petrol station..
Typically alerted by both radar and laser
