Soi 94 resurfacing work

Post by Pagey »

Hua Hin Municipality has announced that extensive resurfacing work will soon commence on Soi 94, one of the most uneven and damaged road surfaces in central Hua Hin.

The project, which includes the installation of new drainage, is expected to take approximately seven months to complete.

The repair work will involve the installation of drainage pipes and resurfacing the road from the western railway intersection to Baan Chang Heng, extending to the far end of Soi 94 where the road turns right. The project scope includes the stretch from the railway tracks towards Lucky 13, Amara Resort, and The Happy Pig, reaching the top of the soi.

During the field visit, project managers presented their operational plans and requested approval for materials from the procurement committee. Machinery and construction activities are scheduled to begin by July 15, 2024, with an anticipated completion date of February 4, 2025.

Mayor Wuttikul emphasized the importance of installing comprehensive public information signs and warning lights at construction sites to prevent accidents. He noted that once completed, the project would significantly benefit the public by making travel more convenient and safer.

Long overdue. It will be a major inconvenience but hopefully they will do it properly this time.

Threads like this have the potential to become as old as Methuselah.

These projects are never finished on schedule, and February 2026 wouldn't surprise me, although I hope I'm wrong.

There's an old thread on here about another soi where they installed drainage to alleviate yearly flooding and that project, if I recall correctly, went on and on forever.

Yes, there have been several areas where the work became extended, but if they do it properly, the end job is always fantastic. They do tend to alter the height of the road though, so some bars/restaurants may find themselves subject to more flooding if the road becomes raised past their entrance e.g. my house has a steeper rise from the road than before, but my next door neighbour floods every time it rains. I'm thinking of bars/restaurants such as e.g. Calypso, Connection and Happy Pig need to be very watchful over the work.

I often walk down Soi 94, and it is currently so uneven, I often feel drunk when perfectly sober.

Unfortunately, one of Hua Hin's main nightspots will be a building site right through next high season. It'll be interesting to see people walk 8 abreast when there's a huge drainage ditch going down the middle of the road. They were never afraid of the traffic before, so I wonder how many will end up in the ditch.

That is a very similar road situation as in Soi 102. All of that area is both flat, and barely above sea level. In Soi 102 they did do it correctly by installing a big pumping station. The building is that shown at 3.08 in the attached video:

There are literally miles of Sois in Bangkok where the road has been raised up to 2 feet about the original level, resulting in flooding into shops and houses.

This old thread is about Soi 102 before the upgrade:

https://huahinforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=6756

The same thing happened in Soi 6 where I had a house. They originally sealed the road without any thought of drainage, resulting in it all being ripped up to install new drains and a raised road level just recently.

There's another thread that I was thinking about in my above post. Soi 115? I seem to recall it went down/up hill and it turned into a big drawn out mess installing drainage pipes.

EDIT: Thread about Soi 114-116 repairs was what I was thinking about from a few years ago.

Ah, just seen your edit. I was about to say, Soi 115 would be unlikely, but by your description it had to be Soi 116 (down/up hill).

It isn't a road I use very much personally, so I don't recall any problems. However, there have been a few residential Sois where work just stopped for no logical reason for several months.

UNBELIEVABLE

Tomorrow is the day the long overdue work on the road that has more potholes than the surface of the moon is due to start.

I've just driven along Soi 94, and workmen are there filling the numerous potholes with tarmac, in readiness for the road to be dug up tomorrow.

At least, I hope the repairs are going to be done, starting tomorrow, and taking 7 months as planned. Or have they decided another patch-up job will do for another 5 years?

I wouldn't be surprised if some more intelligent guy in the Gov told them to wait for the rainy season to be finished? They would save a lot of money due to delays, contract penalities, bad weather and flooding. December start sounds better, really.

I think the pothole filling is taking place all over. They did around our way (Pae Mai to Smor Phrong) the other day.

Yes, by why fill holes in a road scheduled to be dug up tomorrow? As I said, unbelievable.

Used the Soi today and no signs of any work starting. Part of me says minor repairs are better as it naturally slows the traffic down. If they do repair it then I hope they do something with the junction of Charoen Phattana as any increase in traffic speed would result in more prangs there.

Me too, starting, although stated as today, will most likely be started in Thai time.

The sign warning about the work went up yesterday but no sign of any activity yet. Would guess next week at the earliest unless the powers that be want to make a dent into the weekends busy time.
