Soi 94 resurfacing work

I've just been reading that work has resumed after a 5 week break. Traffic restrictions are back in place with a one way system, as opposed to complete closures being order of the day.

It was a no way system between Mae Kep 2 and the 7-11 by the railway when we were there this afternoon (1pm and 3pm).

Driving that way yesterday evening, and again this morning they've made a huge mistake with signing of the diversions, etc.

They have used standard road signs with a lot of written direction, but only written in English. Of course, many Thais don't understand (or at least ignore) road signs. As a result, there were plenty vehicles (cars and motorcycles) going in the wrong direction.

Or are the signs only meant for Farangs?

I came that way just after 5 this evening expecting to go up the one way system. Some clown had parked his car outside of Wonderland, completely blocking the road - a definite case of "Me First." Chaos ensued, with people having to make unplanned detours. However, there was no sign in either Thai or English suggesting parking wasn't allowed. TIT - common sense did not prevail.

Hopefully my last word on this debacle for a few days, maybe longer, because I've made a mental note to avoid Soi 94 until further notice.

Firstly, some signs are now in Thai as well. Somebody must have realised their stupidity.

I've just driven up the one way street, and encountered 2 cars with Bangkok plates coming in the wrong direction. It takes a lot of skill and patience getting past these gits on such a narrow road, with a deep trench on one side. It didn't help that there were motorcycles parked bar side for quite a distance, plus 2 sets of Farangs marching 6 a breast. Definitely a road to be avoided until work finishes in November.

Hmmmm........ that video tells me one thing. We used to go to T&Ms once or twice each week. There is no way I'll be able to get my wife there for the foreseeable future.

As for Wonderland losing business, last night was the busiest I've seen that place for a long time.

It's still a mess, with traffic only driving in one direction. Unfortunately, that direction is often the opposite direction to that signposted.

You didn't specify November of which year for those roadworks to end.

No, but after the last phase of work finished for no logical reason for 4 weeks, the Tessebahn shortened the contract time by 2 months. There was another short spate of work, but all seems to have gone quiet again.

Kamikaze Motorcyclists on Soi 94

Since the road outside Connections has been restored to resemble the surface of the Moon, it is unsafe for motorcyclists to ride on the left hand side going up the hill. Rather than wait for oncoming traffic, many are swinging over to the right hand road, causing oncoming traffic to brake, swerve violently or kill them.

It'll be good when the Soi 94 repairs are complete mid-November , and safe riding practices can be restored.

How can they be restored when they never existed?

Ps I've seen no progress on roadworks since they allegedly restarted

I was down Soi 94 yesterday, and there were 2 small groups of workmen working on the improvements.

Is anybody else coming to the same conclusion as me? The upper area of Soi 94, which resembles the surface of the Moon is not going to be addressed in this phase of the repairs.

Maybe that is how they so easily chopped the project timescale in half, and made them so certain of a November finish

What is the state of Soi 94 nowadays? I'll be back in January. Do I need to rent a helicopter, or is the street mostly usable? I'll stay near the small gas station on the road towards Soi 102. Is it better to use Soi 102 rather than Soi 94?
