1650 baht for green fee, caddie and cart is a good deal. You certainly won't get a deal like that at the other courses, in the Hua Hin area, until the golf festival. It is a very realistic price for the low season and most of the other courses should follow, but they almost certainly won't.
It is a fact that May is the lowest month of the year. In June, July and August, you do get some Europeans taking their summer holidays in Thailand and there are quite a few Australians around. The Australian winter can be pretty cold and miserable. It is sad to see that quite a lot of people are having a bit of a go at Majestic, talking about greens being too hard and a "changing of the guard". Does anyone think the previous "guard" were better? The greens are better, the fairways are better, the clubhouse is better and the value is better. They are also running regular events. I say - well done to Majestic.

I guess that we will just have to accept that 1650 baht or above is the norm for Hua Hin. I was trying more to argue the fact that golf in HH should be cheaper per say.
When you can go and play Sawang or Royal Ratchaburi for half the price it begs the question as to why HH is so expensive.
I accept that Sawang and RR are a fair way from HH but when you can go four to a car it still makes it a far more reasonable day out and Royal Ratchaburi is still the best course I have played in Thailand.
Call it a personal crusade but I will not pay more than 1500 baht for a game of golf and if that precludes me from playing much in HH then so be it.
I played in the Lake View Open on Sunday on CD course for 1500 baht all in.
It was an excellent day and very well organised. The 1500 baht included free food and free beer afterwards as well as an umbrella and other bits and pieces.
The owners surely realise that they get more golfers when the festival is on so why can't they be a bit more proactive with their pricing at other times of the year.

This comment is absolutely absurd. I'm sure JW will lose no sleep over it.

However, let me add that 'free beer' is definitely NOT a silly fact for those of us who enjoy a beer or three after golf. In addition to the high green fees at many local courses, there is the added factor of very expensive food and beverage afterwards.

You need to look at the total cost of a round including food and drinks after the game and compare that to other courses. Majestic, Royal Ratchaburi and a couple of other courses are providing great value. And they are benefitting from it.

Majestic last week when I was there was very busy. Palm Hills on Tuesday had THREE bookings. Enough said !!

As a complete golfing ignoramus, please ignore this question if it is out of line. As a moderator, I have to read everything, and questions do form in the back of my mind, even though I have no interest in the base subject.

Majestic are offering a round of golf at 1650. I assume this is a special promotion, and must compare favourably with other courses in the area. So why are people knocking Majestic, who to this ignoramus are making an effort? How does it compare to other courses in the Hua Hin area?

Well said.
As far as I'm concerned, a day at golf includes the 19th hole (the clubhouse). So if that course has promotions going on for beer and food, it just makes the whole day more enjoyable - despite how I might have played.

The way prices are going, by the time I get around to retiring, I think I will have to be an " armchair" golfer. Maybe my score will improve .....

I read so many comments about the prices of golf in HH, but really guys (& gals)., get a grip......

Unless you are a Member of a Club, it's always going to be expensive to play decent courses.....

Try coming to play a decent public course in Hong Kong, Singapore or Dubai........Then you will realise how affordable HH is.......particularly at this time of the year

Good on the clubs offering lower rates at certain times of the year...long may it continue, but these are businesses after all....not municiple facilities!

DWS - in my Golf Club in Dubai most, if not all of the members, are still in full time employment with nice tax-free salaries.

Whereas a lot of the members on this Forum have retired in Hua Hin.

So you're not exactly comparing apples with apples.

I think the stick that Majestic are getting here is ridiculous, they have done awesome work this last year and have presented a great golf course with great deals - if they had charged 1650 baht from the start noone would be complaining.
To call it a scam is silly.
I am sure that the guys who are happy to pay 1650 are happy the others arent.

Ridiculous statement of the month: Golf should be cheaper in Hua Hin... Why should it be? They are businesses and making money that way. Golf courses are not social services set up to accommodate retired people. Hua Hin is a resort town, look around the world a beach resorts and try to find cheaper golf courses. All around the Caribbean, it's over $100US a round, Phuket is outrageous and even in the Philippines it's not cheap.

Consider yourselves lucky to have good deals around and for those who are cheap and have time to waste, they can always head out of town an drive for an hour to save money. Don't expect businesses to cater to your needs when they are making money otherwise. I'd rather have a course half full at double the price and in great shape than packed with hackers destroying the course with no time for maintenance.

Kudos to Majestic Creek for all their efforts and the great summer specials.

If that is correct then can you tell me why courses a maximum of 45 mins from Pattaya, which IMO are generally superior to those around Hua Hin charge green fees about 50% less ( similarly with booze at the 19th)

There are courses that are cheaper in Pattaya and there are others that are expensive like Laem Chabang and Siam Country Club. Should they lower their prices? The reality is that some businesses are happy to charge more in order to attract a certain kind of customer and they will if they offer a good product.

Phuket is way more expensive than Hua Hin and so is what on offer in Koh Samui. Why? Because the market bears it... Pattaya is a different kind of place and has some cheaper offerings. Don't expect businesses to cater to your special needs when they are run successfully. At the end of the day, you have plenty of choices... I would never pay the kind of money that Palm Hills or Royal Hua Hin ask for the course outside the festival but I would at Sea Pines or BM. The market will decide if those businesses survive in the long run.

If you feel Pattaya is better, you can always choose to live there. Those that live in Phuket and pay extortionate prices also made their choice. I used to go there but don't anymore. Plenty of tourists to replace me so I don't see why the businesses down there should care.

I think it's great that Majestic is making an effort to do different things. Complaining about 150 baht price difference is a bit ridiculous in my opinion especially since it's quite a good deal.

Are you employed by the golf courses of Hua Hin?
You seem very vigorous in their defence and thank you for your kind words that we can go and live in Pattaya if we don't like it here as it’s very reassuring to know that this forum has so many people with such thoughtfulness.
Yes I am a pensioner and yes my pension has been crucified by the exchange rate and yes I do find the prices in Hua Hin expensive but please do not try and compare Hua Hin with Phuket or Koh Samui which are tourist areas. How many package holiday companies do you know list Hua Hin as a destination or international flights that fly direct to HH?
We are by and large a retirement community and while a fair percentage will have a very good pension with plenty of spare cash but I know equally as many who are here on budgets.
I wasn't knocking the efforts of MC, I was asking why the increase for June when it is clearly low season. Is it the Thai way of increasing prices when business is slow?
I was suggesting that prices in Hua Hin should be on a par with other Thai golf courses as in general golf in HH is expensive.
I will try and remember to look this thread up in say 18 months and see if we are all still of the same opinion.
