Chinese tourists at Majestic Creek

Post by Houdi »

Bizarre day at Majestic Creek on Saturday.

At least 200 Chinese tourists turned up and were allowed to rent buggies. They were NOT playing golf and there were four or five people in each buggy driving around the golf course. Needless to say it was complete chaos as they were drivng on the fairways and cart paths and getting in the way of those people who had paid a green fee to play golf.

It was almost impossible for some players to get through the melee of chinese tourists and golf carts on their way to the 10th tee after finishing the front 9 holes.

Several players were injured by collisions with the overloaded golf carts.

Of course, complaints were lodged and the golf course eventually apologised saying that the booking was only made that morning for a group to "look around Majestic". Free green fees were agreed for all players for their next round at Majestic Creek. No comment was forthcoming from the management about why they allowed access to the golf course by this very large group of non players.

More than 50 golfers were affected.

How can Majestic allow this ? Their policy is buggies can be shared by up to two PLAYERS and ONLY players are allowed on the course. Recently a friend was refused permission for her daughter to ride in her buggy during the round because her daughter was not playing.

And, yes, this is a first hand account before the poison pens come out to play. Three of my friends were among those injured.

And there is more. According to the caddies and the gold course staff a similar group turned up the day before also to look around ?????

That is unbelievable. I imagine the condition of the course has been neglected if they allow that sort of thing.

I would think an explanation from the management to this forum is warranted.

I am arriving next week for my annual golf trip with the boys and was intending to have another game there.

Now I don't think so.

If goes through, could put memberships at jeopardy, new owners have no obligation to honour them, a course in pattaya, phoenix golf club, is battling this problem, not sure if it has been settled yet

I too, was there..... :guns:
The one thing I came away with after the laughable display was, that, although we sometimes moan about the Thai's,
and their behaviour, the bunch of rude/arrogant/ignorant pigs I saw that day, reinforced my respect for the Thai people as 'lovely' people overall.
At least one positive came out of the experience.

Inscrutable?

Make sure you disinfect the soles of your golf shoes as the Chinese have a tendency to 'gob' everywhere.

Same happened on Sunday too and I've been told more on the way this week. They were also holding presentations on the upper balcony. None of the staff or caddies would divulge any info, if they actually knew anything. The number I have actually been told is 6000 total visitors.

A real danger (again) of tarring people/countries with the same brush.

I mentioned this one to the LHG and she's embarrassed beyond, especially with other "instances" with Chinese tourists to Thailand - to the extent questioning our forthcoming visit to HH (worried as to how she would be treated).

As for Majestic Creek, from the sidelines, I just see this as rich arrogant Chinese looking to buy and greedy Thais wanting to sell, bending over backwards with zero respect for current members.

I don't think she has need to worry. Yes, Chinese tourists are about, and maybe some are obnoxious, but I'm out and about a lot and haven't really noticed anything out of the ordinary. Unless she starts behaving very badly (pyrotechnics and the like :D ), she won't even be noticed.

Yes Chinese people can be rude, particularly when they are in big groups and In Thai they usually are. But then again--What is the reputation of the Yobbo British is in Spain and remember when Americans started to travel there was the "Ugly American" I have seen very few of the BIG chinese groups in HH--Too far from BKK for too few "Tourist sites" that they love.
