Germany's energy minister has admitted that it will fall some way short of its 2020 climate targets and that voters are weary of the renewable energy projects which in Germany alone cost taxpayers around €25 billion per year.

What if Canada had spent $200bn on wind energy instead of oil?
https://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-in ... ind-energy

In explaining Canada's decision to nationalise the controversial Trans Mountain pipeline for $4.5bn, Bill Morneau went hard on the economic argument. “Make no mistake,” the finance minister said. “This is an investment in Canada’s future.”

In fact, since 1999, more than $200bn has been invested into the Alberta oil sands for that future. But what if that cash had gone into wind energy instead?
In 2017, the Alberta oil sands produced roughly 912m barrels. About 60% was turned into gasoline and diesel, enough to fuel 73m vehicles for 16,000km (the roughly average yearly driven distance).
Had $200bn been invested in the wind energy sector, at the current cost of $1.8m megawatt (MW), Alberta would have 111,000 MW of capacity. Based on what Alberta actually generated in 2017, it could power more than 122m electric vehicles for the same 16,000km.

United States would benefit if Canada failed to build a pipeline to the Canadian coast and they would get a better price for their product. This is Canada taking control of their economic destiny, as virtually all of Canada's oil exports go to the United States and the Trans Mountain pipeline would enable sales to Asia via the West Coast.

“Although there is relatively large variability over shorter periods, we don’t detect any significant long-term trend over 25 years,” Shepherd said. However, Zwally’s working on a paper that will show the eastern ice sheet is expanding at a rate that’s enough to at least offset increased losses the west.

New US Solar Record — 2.155 Cents Per kWh!
https://cleantechnica.com/2018/06/14/ne ... y-storage/
Not until the oil runs out, as 'they' Image who own it, have too much control....Image They have a tendency to buy up all the alternative energy patents, and shelve them. In the USA, they literally killed the electric car. Bought out the battery manufacturer, then after the current leases of the cars, crushed 5000 perfectly good vehicles.

They had a waiting list to lease, with no marketing........Simply amazing.

Small-Scale Solar Is Bound To Expand Rapidly After New EU Renewable Energy Deal
https://cleantechnica.com/2018/06/15/sm ... ergy-deal/

"The agreement between the European Parliament and EU governments establishes the right of European citizens, local authorities, small businesses and cooperatives to produce, consume, store and sell their own renewable energy, without being subject to punitive taxes or excessive red tape.
For communities and citizens across Europe this could be a big deal. It will now be much easier to organize small-scale energy systems to fit individual needs in housing and industry. The new EU directive refers to renewable energy communities as a key to the success of the clean energy transition as a whole."

THE EFFECT OF A 100% EMISSIONS REDUCTION ON CLIMATE/TEMPS?
AUSTRALIA’S Chief Scientist Alan Finkel was recently asked what difference would be made to the climate if Australia somehow managed to stop emitting 100 per cent of its carbon dioxide – “Virtually nothing” Finkel admitted.

A big advantage of reducing emissions a 100% by using renewable energy for most countries would be that you stop giving huge amounts of money to people that hate you anyway, in either Russia, the Middle East or now, even Trump's America.

I read this article in full, it doesn’t paint a very rosy picture in terms of raw materials (specifically Cobalt) required to sustain EV’s until/unless another material for batteries is developed. All the governments pushing for a shift to no combustion engineed vehicles by 2040 are living in cloud cuckoo land!!

In the BP Energy Review this year is a section on rare earths, both prices and output. BP show that prices for both cobalt and lithium have risen sharply in the last year or two, although cobalt is still cheaper than it was in 2008.
