Just had a look at the airport's web site and it says all flights are cancelled until further notice.

Wonder what will happen to it

There was quite a bit of discussion when SGA said they were cancelling their Hua Hin flights. First Bangkok Airways then SGA pulled out, I wonder if the airport will close completely, I suppose with with the road somewhat improved there is little need for it any longer, shame really.

For years,Hua Hin Airport has been the base for the Civil Aviation Training School. I do not know if they are still conducting training there, as I am no longer involved.
Commercial flights may well be suspended, but I doubt very much that the Airport will be "closed" per se, especially keeping in mind our esteemed resident.

I think HH airport will always struggle to be viable. Its too close to BKK to compete

Before you can spank a shitty chicken it will become the new site for 'Airport villas' or some such like.

Some ex SAS arms dealing Bond type from billericay will buy it and promptly ruin it, leaving it half built because he owes everyone money and hasn't two pennies to rub togeather. Mark my words...

Might be like John Travolta's place in Florida,
"Fly in to Your Very Own Hua Hin Villa!"

Can see it now --
"HUA HIN SKY VILLAS" with personal landing strip! From 1.8 million baht!!!

No doubt the ex-SAS and City of London types will soon be winging in on their Gulfstreams with trophy wives in tow. :thumb:

I remember the constructed of the tunnel, new building etc… I not only thought the new airport was going to be used for flights between HH and Bangkok but also as an international airport. Does anyone remember how many years ago that was?
Anyway, I was told a few years later that it would never be used for anything more than small planes and the odd chartered flight. Something to do with planes coming too close to the royal palace…

There are several Flying Clubs in Thailand. Different areas seem to have different restrictions, but it is possible to fly on a private licence.

The one near Pattaya probably has the most Falang members, and from what I recall they are a friendly bunch.

Hi there faq2mfh and all others of my HHAD fellas!

I can still remember the construction of the new Airport Tunnel on Petchkasem Road. I was still a Student of Schiller- Stamford International University @ that Time I think it was mid 2000 . My close friend a Senior student event went to the construction site as part of the Hotel & Tourism class. Back then it was said that Bangkok Airways had invested in Hua Hin airport to make it a stopover between Bangkok, Phuket and Bangkok, Samui and possible future routes such as Singapore Chiang Mai ect.
But the plan went terribly wrong and after BKK airways running stopovers in Hua Hin a couple of years with considerable ammount of losses they abanndoned Hua Hin Airport.
The reason of noise pollution and security risk with the distance of the airport to Klaiklangwon Palace was also an Issue. That's why BKK Airways had only used Boeing 717's Aircrafts to Hua Hin which had been decommissioned too.
An extension of HHQ"s (IATA Callsign) Runway to the Sea would be to expensive and extension landinwards was impossible It would pierce right through the entrance of Palm Hills. could be very very expensive.
The Hua Hin Major has quite a list of Projects for Hua Hin including a New Hua Hin Airportwhich is still in drwaing board stage so don't hold your breath just yet.

It is a pity it closed, but with the BKK to HH road much improved I suppose it was inevitable.

Want to see a landing at HH watch the links below.
Did you spot your house??

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
