Airport security--cost

Post by Dr Mike »

TWO questions.I have searched but cannot find the answer to the question--How much is added to each ticket to pay for the airprt securuty
2. I have travelled by train in Canada, China and the UK--I am pleased to say there is very little security, no shoes and belt off, no pat-down, at the most asked to open your hand baggae--Why the difference==a bomb on a train, a bomb on a plane , both kind of messy?

Both very messy indeed. In China - certainly on the High Speed network, there are metal detectors/baggage scanners in place these days, but as you say nothing like the level of security that is in place in the airports. I've not seen any security on the ''normal'' rail networks.

Bomb on a plane - higher profile(?), therefore bigger target(?)
Explosion on a plane - fair certainty of 100% casualties. Not so on a train even with derailment.
Plane/wreckage coming down over a densely populated area - huge increase in casualties.
Sad truth - monetary loss, plane vs train(?)
