Flights to/from Thailand status, news, and updates
Many travel threads get hijacked (usually not deliberately) by people wanting to share bargain flight deals they obtained when travelling to Thailand on holiday. I certainly slotted into this bracket before I moved here. I think we all like to share how clever we were making substantial savings on what is often one of the single most expensive parts of our holiday - I did.
I will make this thread a sticky, and the purpose is for members to make it a quick reference for others seeking a bargain e.g.:
(total fiction/wishful thinking) I've just bought a flight from XYZ Travel departing Heathrow on 20 Dec 14, retuning 16 Jan 15 flying British Airways for £215 all inclusive.
If we keep this thread regularly updated, it will allow others to share in our good fortune, or even shoot it down if they find something better. The question is regularly asked, so lets keep the information in a single area and make it easy for everybody to find.
So come on guys, I'm sure there are many of you Thailand bound for the high season, what bargains have you managed to achieve?
NB: Depending upon relevance to a thread, future posts regarding packages achieved, posted in another thread could find themselves moved here.

Re: Flight Bargains
What about flight bargains to/from other places or within Thailand?
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Re: Flight Bargains
No bargains to offer, but I'd like some advice from you frequent fliers, and this seems like the best place to do it. My daughter is planning to visit from the UK (Notts) next summer.
1. I realise flights will be more expensive in Thai high season, but what about UK summer period?
2. Is it a rule of thumb that flights are cheaper if you book substantially in advance? If so, by how many months?

Aeroflot have always been on the cheap end. However, my guess is that once you've used them, you'll never use them again!

Re: Flight Bargains
My somewhat limited experience is to book either very early or very late - any promotional fares will have been snapped up early so leaving it to maybe 3-4 months before travel is likely to cost more. The downside of leaving it late is that you have less flexibility so it depends on your schedule, if you can be flexible it might be worth taking a risk and book late, but if it's a very popular time, you could miss out. For me, I always tend to book early.dtaai-maai wrote:No bargains to offer, but I'd like some advice from you frequent fliers, and this seems like the best place to do it. I guess Birmingham Intl would be close enough for her....Etihad,Qatar and Emirates all fly out of there with 1 stop in the Middle east. Once every few months they will have special offers. I have joined the loyalty card programme of all 3 and receive an e mail when they have special offers. Flying from the UK in summer is reflected in their airfares even though it's off season here. If her dates are flexible its good to check all 3 airfares once or twice a week and when you see a fare that you think is reasonable get it booked. I am thinking of returning back to the UK some time next year for a visit, there are literally hundreds of options, for example I could fly to some European capitals a lot cheaper and then use Ryanair or Easyjet to get into the UK. Sometimes that can shave a few quid off the total. Godd luck and happy hunting

Re: Flight to Thailand bargains
Would be interesting to know what websites/agents people are booking through if not directly with the airline.

Re: Flight to Thailand bargains
It's some years since I used Aeroflot and they were worse than bad. From the UK, change at Moscow, refuel at Kashkent, then New Delhi before finally arriving at Bangkok. Huge delays both ways, service was zero, and your luggage was the last out after other airlines had been serviced. Moscow was one of the most depressing airports etc. etc. The seats were generally broken and the whole aircraft (which seemed to be designed for hauling cattle) could be turned into a freighter. In those days, Aeroflot had no credit line with other airports and there were stories of them paying for fuel with credit cards. I'm sure they have improved as they couldn't get any worse. Glad to hear they are now running a proper service. However, from my past personal experience, I would be reluctant to use them again.
On another note, my daughter has got her best deals from booking at lastminute.com. That means leaving your options open until the 'last minute'.

We use Westeast Travel their website is much the same as any price comparison site like Skyscanner but if you phone them up they will offer you promotions that are cheaper for Thailand we saved about another thirty pounds per ticket doing it this way.

[Edit] Checking the website yesterday, the price is now 1,083, and could rise to 2566.50 Baht.

Re: Flight to Thailand bargains
be flexible with what day you want to fly out Saturday is more expensive than Tuesday
for instance, also sites use tracking cookies so prices can change when you check back an hour later (higher of course), clear your cookies and cache as a habit.
Aerofloet had the cheapest flights I have ever seen flying out of Amsterdam 485euro
return, already gone so if you see a good deal grab it.

Re: Flight to Thailand bargains
I've just spotted some flights from Paris to Bangkok for midweek departures, late October and early November for £372 on Jet which is about the cheapest I've ever seen for a usable flight out of Europe.
