Don Meung Transfer to Hua Hin

Post by cgm1 »

Myself and my partner are arriving at Don Meung Airport 11.05am on the 9th January..
Looking for a shared transfer to Hua Hin or the best economical way ??
Last time took the minivan to Suvarnabhumi and then the express coach..
Any suggestions welcome..
Thanks Chris

the VIP bus to HH leaves BKK around 14:30, I think. cheap and slightly more safe than a mini van.

or take the train that links Don Meung to the Bangkok train station or Bang Sue station and take the train to Hua Hin.
cost more than the bus. But much safer than mini vans. takes about 4 hours.

just depends on how wiped out you are after your flight.

Fastest and cheapest (not safest):

Follow the bus signs in Don Muang and take bus A1 (30 baht, 15-30 minutes) to Mochit Bus Station (it's the last stop, do not get off at Mochit BTS). Walk into the station and right in front of you there will be a ticket booth for "Central Thailand". Ask for a ticket to Hua Hin (minibus, 180 baht, 2.5-3.5 hours) and wait to be called.

If you're feeling confident, go through the station and out to the parking area and find the Hua Hin bound minibus yourself (AFAIR, it's parked on the left at the 4th or 5th row in), this will allow you to get better seats but the price will remain the same.

Both the train and VIP bus are safer, but more expensive and much slower.

The LHG has decided to enjoy a break in HH next month whilst I'm in the "Sunny Sahara" working to pay for it....

She'll be travelling via China to collect Mother-in-Law and arriving at Don Meung. What are the options with regards to transfers to HH these days? Other than direct taxi transfer, would it be best to transfer to Suvarnabhumi (via taxi/bus) and then take the VIP Airport Bus to HH, or are other (safe) options available?

Also, I saw on the Airport Bus website, that the transfer to HH (from Suvarnabhumi Airport) was approx. 5hrs - I always thought it was 3-3.5hrs.

With regards to a direct taxi transfer to HH (from Don Meung), what's the approx. cost? I think I paid 2,500 last time from Suvarnabhumi, but that's a few years back.

Any advice/thoughts much appreciated.

The increased time on the airport bus is due to the mess of works on Rama II which the government keep apologising for but seem unable to solve the problem.

Took the airport bus this last Tuesday at 6 am from Cha Am to Suvarnabhumi and it took 3hours15, came back to Cha Am on the 13.30 bus and it took just under 3 hours, to get to Hua Hin add another 20 minutes
The time it takes might also depend on the time you take the bus

Thanks all for the comments/info. :thumb:

I think if they were arriving at Suvarnabhumi, their preferred option would be the VIP Airport Bus, but with the added hassle of transferring from Don Meuang, it looks like being a taxi/private car pick-up and a direct run to HH.

I wouldn't know how to plan that out Pharvey unless you're able to get Airline help and recommendations. Two woman traveling alone and neither can speak Thai is an invitation to get ripped off and perhaps not safe.

For sure I wouldn't have them just go out and flag down a taxi and start asking if he want's to drive to HH.

It's been so long since I've done things like that I don't have any recommendations to give to you, but hopefully someone on here can, or the airline can help?

Thanks for the thoughts Pete, but if going the taxi/private car route, we have friends (well neighbours actually) in HH who would make all the necessary arrangements, so no problems there...... that said, he is Welsh so fingers crossed!! :D

We have a place in HH which had been leased out until recently, but is free at the moment - hence the visit.
