Charting the skies

Post by J.J.B. »

I stumbled across this story while browsing the news today and was intrigued by this free app. Plane-tracking app explores airspace in 3D
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-39558952

I've used the paid "Flight Track" app in the past and have been impressed by its accuracy and usefulness in letting me know when to leave for the airport to meet arriving flights; much more accurate than the airport info boards!

Anyway, I've had a play with this on my ipad mini and it's remarkable, much more data rich than the other app. It also covers the entire globe as far as I can tell, not just the UK as I initially thought. I've just been browsing flights over Swampy in stunning 3D and been able to manipulate the image like Tom Cruise in Minority Report! 8)

If you're in any way interested in air navigation or aviation, have a play with this, I think you'll like it!

[Mod Note] I think I've fixed your link J.J.B. . If the link is pointing to the wrong thing, please advise.

This one works on a Windows PC. Don't know about phones. (Bangkok shown, but is International)

It is the correct link, thanks Mods, and I wasn't aware it was only for iOS. I've used Flight Radar 24 on my PC for a while and I imagine the data feed is similar although the new app seems more flexible, certainly in terms if visualisation.
