Dog boarding and training Hua Hin

Post by NoahandBella »

Hi all, it is our intention to move to Hua Hin in about 12 mths time. We are "young" retiree's. Husband asked me tonight what I would do with my free time over there (we are from Melbourne, Australia). I started researching and reading and I can't find anything with regard to a reliable and comfortable dog boarding and dog training facility around Hua Hin. Am I missing something? Is there such a place? If not, would such a place be warranted? I have headed up a dog rescue org in Australia for many years now and have an absolute truck load of experience in both training and keeping dogs happy and content who are "out of their usual routine", not to mention experience in nursing/grooming/behavioral etc. I will be bringing my own three dogs with me, with the intention of a relaxed beach lifestyle. But after researching and not finding anything suitable in the way of dog accom/dog school, I can't help it wonder if this is something that is needed in Hua Hin? I know for a fact that you meet the most amazing people in the dog world. There by would I be achieving "2 birds with 1 stone".....can I offer a service AND meet like minded people at the same time by establishing a dog resort/training facility?? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Cheers

I think you're correct in saying that nothing like that exists in Hua Hin, but the problem you will have in trying to establish such a business here will be in doing it legally with a work permit - getting one will be if not impossible, very difficult I'm sure.

Thanks for that Dannie Boy. I imagine it would mean setting up a Thai company (which we will have to do anyway) and employing Thai nationals to maintain the dogs, their area's, walk them etc and leave the actual dog training to me. Do you think there is a need for such an establishment in the area? I would think that a 10 dog boarding facility would be all that I would consider doing - for my own sanity purposes! Or would you consider this type of thing too "structured" to be required in the Hua Hin area?

i went to view a kennel business a few months ago,it was close to the Springfield Glof Club. I am bringing my 2 dogs over in 6 months and would be happy to board them in that place. I know of no dog training business in HuaHin though. A business opportunity that may viable is a pet crematorium, a previous thread has highlighted the problem of disposing of a loved pet. May not be your thing though.

Most of us have informal agreements. Eg the breeder of my dogs looks after them when we go on hols, most of my friends with Thai wife's/girlfriends don't take them with them if they go to their home country leaving them to look after fido. Certainly a need for your service but given the work permit restrictions, you wouldn't. Be able to do anything physical- excersising or feeding them, would be difficult. For you. All the best

I think this is a very good idea, provided that
(i) you look on it as a constructive way to spend your early retirement rather than the first step on the road to making a fortune, and
(ii) you make sure you are 'legal'.

Good luck.
This is the way

Oh absolutely to both. I get great enjoyment from the dogs (we have rescued, rehab and rehomed over 800 in the past few years) and as a rescue we do it for the greater good of the dogs/community, so no thought of big dollar signs in my eyes. just simply a thought on how to blend in and how I could contribute to a privileged lifestyle. And yes, it would all be done (if we did go ahead) within the boundaries of the law. Just food for thought atm. I don't know if a pet crematorium is something we would gain the same satisfaction from though, as there is nothing like gaining a dogs trust and making a better life for them. Many thanks to you all for your impute. We are coming over to visit the week after next, so something to mull over while we relax and enjoy our surroundings. Cheers.

Hua Hin desperately needs a high-quality, European-standard kennel/boarding plae. There's one in Cha Am (near Springfield) but there are a number of problems with it. The woman who runs it is great and my dogs love her. However, the place is riddled with ticks and my dogs ALWAYS come back covered in them (even though they get Frontline every month). Last time they were there, one of my dogs picked up some sort of bacterial skin condition as well. Plus, I have one dog with long(ish) hair and he came back all matted after just six days. I don't expect the kennel to groom the dog, but a little bit of attention could have prevented this.

I agree with dotx - this area could really do with a professional kennels setup and a dog-training facility also sounds great - maybe you could give me some ideas on how to train huskies, the most single-minded dogs I've ever come across!!

Don't worry about the legal side of it - though you seem to have a pretty good idea about what's required in that area. Once you have the company in place, there's nothing to stop you actually running the business yourself, as long as you have 4 bona-fide Thai employees.

I wish you all the best with your venture and we'll be visiting you for sure once you get set up.

I think this would be a good idea/business but I am biased as all 3 of my dogs need training :D

Hi barrys, as much as I would love to give you some training tips, it is very difficult to advise without seeing the behaviour first hand. But I will say the best way to bond a dog is to walk them on a regular basis. teach them to sit for any food (a meal or treat) and always follow the rules of exercise, discipline, affection in that order. I adore my own three dogs, but they are not allowed to make the rules in my home, I am their pack leader and dogs prefer this regime as the alternative is for them to be pack leader and it is very stressful to be in charge of providing shelter, looking out for danger, finding food etc. Dogs much prefer to be a pack member where they are confident (and relaxed) it is all provided. The rescue we run is actually Shar Pei Rescue - so we know all about dominant dog breeds who have a mind of their own, I really do empathize lol.

The Swedish dogtrainer is back. He has taken over half kennel located out in the forest. Open soon for dogs and cats.

I got a shock when I came out there. Dogs and cats in the same house. Old owner is back and build up kennlen again.

I know that he will open a träningcenter for dogs within short. A place that I reccomend. He will have 50 years of experience of dogs.

Hi! I know you said you would be in Hua Hin in about 12 months time, but I thought I'd check and see if you are here yet. I have 3 small dogs that I need to have watched for 9 days, starting next week. The lady that usually watches them for me is not sure she will be available, so I'm in a bit of a pinch.

Thanks!
