Spent a week there myself in April, we stayed at the Cabana which I wouldnt recommend due to the poor service there. The actual resort isnt bad, rooms are 1,250 per night, but the staff were pretty much useless. It is the only place in Chumphon that offers diving though.
I'd suggest driving down that beach road, there are plenty of hotels and resorts along there. For snorkelling and diving you can't beat the islands of Koh Ngam Yai and Koh Ngam Noi about an hour off the coast. More information can be found here:
