Taxi prices coming down

Post by richard »

One of my regular taxi drivers has lowered their prices due to competition and low demand

Door to door service from HH to BK is now 1500 one way. Just cut a deal for HH to BK, 3 hour wait and the BK to HH door to door 3000

Genuine question - is that not a bit OTT?

They do almost the same journey on airport runs a lot cheaper. Albeit, one way there is no passenger, but their costs must be about the same.

From past experience/trips we have found private cars/taxis to be around the 1800-2200 mark. We have used the same guy for quite a while now who is extremely reliable, safe driver, great transport etc. - his standard rate is 1800, but we'll always give him 2K with the tip.

Depends on time of day and time of week but never more than 3 hours excluding stops

Also depends on how knowledgeable the driver is. There are a number of different options when entering or leaving Bangkok.

On the subject of prices and lack of demand, the flight I took from Frankfurt to Bangkok on Oman Air last month was about the cheapest I've ever paid in ten years, around 500 Euros and I'm getting similar quotes for September.
It was also the first time that I've ever got to Thailand and back from Europe without having to queue for anything, anywhere, neither security or immigration at any of the airports involved. It reminded me of why people used to enjoy flying! (The downside is that it's all an indication of just how bad the economy is at the moment.)

No, less. When my daughter (with 2 kids) has met us or come to the airport to make sure we go home, we've only paid the same as if we were being picked up or going home alone. The journey is the same for the taxi whether there's any passengers sat in it or not.

When we had to go to the agency that the British Embassy use in BKK to apply for a UK visa for my wife, the fare one way was 1500 baht. The driver waited for us (almost 2 hours) and the return fare was just 2000 baht total, although I gave him an extra 200 for the longer than expected waiting time.

I only pay 1500 Baht for pick up at airport upon arrival and then the same when I return later. Empty car is free.
I wouldn't have to manage my anger if people could learn to mange their stupidity!

I won't post the number as people pay to advertise on hear, send me a PM when you're able too.

Only problem is if you're coming from the UK for instance and you don't have a Thai speaker with you she speaks very little English.

Next week I will need a taxi with a 'safe driver' to go to Swampy-Airport..any suggestions please..??
(I cannot use any of the taxi-drivers that loiter outside City-Beach Hotel..because that's where my last driver operates from, + he knows the wife, ( he's suicidal on that BKK Rd..never-again!).
Thanks.. :thumb:
