What to do in Sukothai? - Now with photos
What to do in Sukothai? - Now with photos
I'm going to find myself with about 6 to 8 hours to kill in Sukothai on Saturday. This is a very limited time - can anybody help me with a few 'cultural' must dos in such a short time frame?

Re: What to do in Sukothai?
OMG, this is harder than I thought. I was thinking that I'd just head for Sukothai, and I'd find the ancient city. I've been looking at Google Earth, and now I'm confused. What is the big heart NW of the city? It looks like a heart shaped lake, with a heart shaped island in the middle, and a narrow causeway leading to it.
Am I heading to the city, or the heart please?

Confusion over regarding location - I've now found the Historical Park.
The heart is something to do with irrigation I think.

Re: What to do in Sukothai? - Now with photos
This was a trip I'd been promising myself for a long time, and it almost went disastrously wrong. I'd done my research, and entered the Sukothai Historical Park into my SatNav.
57 Km from Phichit, where we were staying to watch the football. We made an early start, and everything was looking good, passing several signposts to the park. Then the SatNav advised, "Turn Right." Being obedient I did as I was told. Not thinking anything was wrong, I mentioned to the others how this must either be one of Thailand's best kept secrets, or the SatNav knew a sneaky short cut. There were no more signposts.
Having the utmost faith in my SatNav (after all it took us all the way to the front door of the hotel), I carried on regardless. Then those well known words, "You have reached your destination." I stopped, looked around, and there was nothing but paddy fields in every direction for miles. Oh Sh*t, we're well and truly lost.
We found somebody to ask, and she'd never heard of it. We drove about another mile an found a garage workshop. They'd heard of it - it was about 40Km in that direction (pointing across a paddy field. I was devastated. I had a car full of people, and we were well and truly lost, hundreds of miles from home.
Then a moment of inspiration what happens if I put Sukothai Historical Park into my phone's navigator? Yes, we were on our way. My new helper took us straight to the park.
Analysing what went wrong with Plan A, I can only assume I'd typed in the wrong co-ordinates
Entry to the park was cheaper than I'd read. My research revealed a 150 Baht admission for non-Thais and 30 Baht for Thais. We actually paid 100 Baht for non-Thais and nothing for Thais. Not withstanding the dual pricing issue, I thought it was excellent value. For an extra 50 Baht I could take the car into the park. Otherwise we could hire a bicycle or catch a tram. I took the car inside, but parked it, and we walked.
The park was beautiful - a bit like Ayutthaya, but the intermingled lakes (moats) were the perfect way to complete the scenery. We had totally clear skies also, which also helped. I took loads of photos. Here are a few of them - they will say more than I ever can.

We aimed to get there for 8:30, but due to my mishap , we didn't arrive until 10. We were there until about 2. Most people seemed to be riding bikes, rather than looking at the attractions.
