Lack of passengers-- Here is a HUGE generalization but I think there is some truth in it.
The sort of tourists who go to Pattaya are not interested in the relative quietness of HH.
The sort of tourists who go to HH are not interested in the sleaze of Pattaya

I've been on the Ferry a few times. It's way too big for the amount of passengers. It's normally about a quarter to a third full. It's also way too expensive; they should have gone with a much smaller boat, and lower fares. If it was popular enough a small boat doing two or three journeys a day would have still been able to meet the same capacity as the currently empty vessel.

This is a real bummer for me. I'm coming to Thailand on Sept 30th and going to Hua Hin from 3rd to 6th. I booked and paid for the ferry online for Oct 6th for two people.

I was expecting real hassle getting my money back, but thankfully got an email on Monday from the online company saying they'll be reimbursing my card. It hasn't arrived yet though.

I've used it a couple of times before and it's been excellent (except for the Pattaya end, where you have to queue up on the quay in the hot sun for ages before being allowed on), so I'm miffed that I now have to taxi it.

There's still the "airport" bus option, which is much cheaper than a taxi

It is an excellent service - shame it's only once a day each way.

Thanks for the suggestion and the price is good. But must admit I prefer my creature comforts, so will taxi it. I was more concerned about the time element - 5-6 hours compared to 2 on the ferry, plus however you travel on Thai roads you're taking your life in your hands.

Personally, I think this bus is more comfortable than any taxi, and generally driven in a much safer manner. Taxi may be a little faster.

While this is true, taxis do hold a couple of advantages, specifically on the HH-Pattaya route, if you can afford them. Firstly you can go whenever you want, and you can of course stop of for food or comfort breaks whenever you feel like it.

Very true. I just settle down with a couple of good movies for the journey

One negative about the HH Pattaya bus is that sometimes goes into the airport to drop people off.
It’s a quick operation, but does this detour add much mileage to the journey time?

DaveT, are you suggesting that a taxi is more comfortable than a quality bus--NO way.

I've never done it but picturing it in my mind using the Motorway, Rt 36 etc., It could add an extra hour to the trip, and longer if traffic is bad. Pete

It's never happened when I've done the trip.
