Night transportation Hua Hin <-> Bangkok

Post by moater »

I need to be in Bangkok at 6AM next week. I really don't want to spend the night in Bangkok, and I don't mind traveling at night. Ideally, I'd want to take a van/bus at around 2:30-3:00AM.

Does anyone know of any options other than taxi/rental car? The latest bus I could find departs at 21:00, which is way too early.

On the return leg, I need to leave Bangkok at around 21:00. Are there any vans running at that time?

Thanks!

The slow big bus starts at 3-3.30 from HH to the southern bus station. I think the suicide busses go hourly through the night.
Again on your return there are hourly big busses from southern bus station and at that time are surprisingly quick as they do not make many stops.

There are no vans that go to Bangkok after 7pm. The last Big Bus leaves at 9pm and arrives around midnight.

There is a sleeper train which might get you there for 6am, though you'd need to check at the station. I believe that ticket price is around 600bt.

Sorry to contradict you pleng, but due to my Emirates flight leaving in the morning I often get the 3,30 big bus to Southern bus station and then a taxi to the airport.

Thanks guys, so there's hope yet!

Bigbird, where do I catch these big slow buses (or the suicide ones)? I went to ask around the Hua Hin bus station near soi 96, but couldn't get any helpful answers.

Bigboy, did you mean to include a link to a timetable with your message (hopefully for buses and not the train)?

If you use our map http://www.maphuahin.com/, just click the 'Busses to Bangkok' on the right of the screen (the entry is a fair way down the list).

The bus station is located on Sa Song Road, between Sois 72 and 74 - not far from the centre of the Night Market. When I say bus station, it is little more than a shop with seats (waiting room) inside.

Facing North on that road the big busses are on your Left and the suicide minibuses are on your Right. There is often an excitable Thai chap trying to steer you to the minibuses. If you have luggage you need the bigger bus.

So it looks like train is the only way to do it:
  • Bus: even if I catch the earliest 3AM bus, the chances of me making a 6AM appointment are none.
  • Minibus: the earliest minibus I could find departs at 4:30AM, way too late. The latest around 7PM, way too early.
  • Train: according to the timetable, there should be a train at 1:16AM that arrives at 5:35AM (which leaves me only 25 minutes to make my appointment, so not ideal either).
If anyone has other ideas, I'd love to read them.

If time is that important, you only have two choices, well three but you've already covered the trains which are notoriously non-punctual........you have to go the night before or pay for a taxi.

You could well be right... when I went last time I was looking for the last one at night, which was 9pm. I guess anything from 00:01 onwards would be listed at the top of the schedule, rather than the bottom :)
