Ferry service between HH & Pattaya?

Post by Fybo »

Has anyone heard about a new ferry service starting up in May between HH & Pattaya? I heard talk of this before, but nothing definite.

It seems that the word is that, the ferry will take 3 hours, cost 990 bht, have a bar and a small casino.

Not sure if this is just speculative gossip or a reality.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy!

Seems very unlikely to me that they would allow a casino inside the Thai borders.

Be nice if it happens, where did you hear about it from ?

Are there any international waters between Thailand and Cambodia in the Gulf?
Even if there were, I doubt much gambling could take place legally on a proposed 3 hour crossing.
Maybe the trip should be 12 hours, including 9 hours at the tables?

From the recurring interest it appears there'd be some business there.

Getting brave now, going to answer 2 pionts in one go. First, I do not know about a ferry service from HH to Pattya but you can certainly charter a sail boat in Pattya and sail to HH, the only gamble though is where you will land. The second is that the rumour doing the rounds in Jontiem is that Khun Thaksin and the Prince have bought the Ambassador Hotel, the 5000 room one and have applied for a gaming licence. If anyone can Thaksin can !

Where's The Ambassador Hotel?
Thought Thaksin wanted gambling legalised last year. Hardly news. Thing is, he didn't get it through The Senate.
The whole rationale of Mr T's argument was to try and stem the flow of money going out of this country to Cambodia and Burma every weekend.
So, if someone else is getting the loot, and we can't have it legally from our own people, for ourselves, we'll change the law.
As I said, old news unless it's raised its head again, in which case I'll stand corrected.

It's on the ocean side of Sukhumvit Lomu, about 4 miles south of Jomtien, on the way to Sattahip. Built back in the early 80's and it is indeed huge, 5000 rooms +. They used to drive a ski boat around one of the swimming pools! However, at least 80% of the rooms have never been used and subsequently stripped of furniture, TV's etc., to replenish rooms that are in use. A real boondoggle(sp) by some very rich Thai who wasn't thinking right. It's primary use for the past years has been for Russians arriving on charter flights into U-Tapao, and some Thai company conferences.

The original concept was interesting though as it's real name is "Ambassador City" and the plan was that guests would never have to leave and go to Pattaya proper. In the beginning they had everything from a church to girlie bars in there. I.E., spend your money here, no need to go out for the entire 2 weeks of your holiday...LOL. Pete

PS: The rumor here now is that the Big T has bought the Royal Cliff Resort, not the Ambassador. Probably neither is true.
