The wallet question

Post by Jimiherf »

The first night I spent with a girl, I had the feeling that she and my wallet would be gone in the morning ... As it didn't happen, I went on and pick another girl, and ...
Later, after remembering me completly drunk in a desert Sukumvit at 4 in the morning the day before, I started to think that Thailand really is a safe place to be ...

Am I right or should I be more careful the next time ? :|

I've never had a baht stolen off me by a girl in Thailand. Don't get me wrong, they've left me lighter in the pocket :D ...but never through theft or deception.

I think you're pretty safe in Hua Hin but like anywhere be careful and don't carry a lot of unneccesary cash around with you. Put large amounts of cash, your cards and passport in your room safe or leave with reception in your hotel. And if you are carrying a bit too much don't flash it around....take the common sense approach and you'll be fine.

Same deal if you take a girl to your hotel - don't leave too much lying around. I'm not saying a girl may be intentionally out to steal from you but why put temptation in her way - she may have gambling debts, have the rent to pay etc, and may just be tempted.

Saying that, I'm not too careful myself most of the time - never have a huge amount at the best of times but usually just leave it lying around. Never had a problem but the girls all know I'm skint so why would they bother chancing it.

Different story in Bangkok where there's more chance of a scam. Just act like you would in any big city and you should be fine though.

Thailand is a very safe place - stick to common sense and hopefully you'll never have a problem.

There are a couple of posts here referring to thefts but they were down to carelessness on the victims part from what I could make out. See below...

Dropped my wallet (boozed up and small pockets) during songkran in Phuket, Patong Beach in a bar. You can imagine the scene, water everywhere, confusion, booze, babes all of a sudden a cute little bar girl comes across and says
"You drop wallet!" And hands me it over! Not a satang out of place!
Just goes to show they are not all prowler thieves! :)
