Definitely a kukri, just from the head pattern.

Yes, somebody once told me that pattern denoted a viper, although none were killed for that reason. We have had real vipers also.

No, a Kukri is non-venomous, but we keep getting reminded, it has a nasty bite.

My wife was attacked by a baby one (it's on here) a few months back. After asking the experts, they reckoned it had somehow got it's teeth caught in her nightie, and the tugging, whilst struggling to get away seemed to be aggression in my wife's mind. Unfortunately, she panicked, and killed it.

I've been educating myself regarding different snakes in recent months, but until I get an independent verification, I give them a wide berth. When I moved here, the only good snake was a dead snake, but I'm gradually educating my family into letting most visitors live. However, it's impossible to educate my dogs.

BB..Your not wrong there, poisonous or not it really went after our dog but he got it and shook it in a split second game over. I was exactly the same when we first moved into the house especially with the jungle over wall, and was always wary, but have now learned to live with the local flora and fauna, now grown accustomed .Having a good Thai soi dog in family gives a lot of security and his instinct regarding snakes the way he dispenses never ceases to amaze me :)

I've witnessed one of our dogs kill a snake twice. I find it amazing how fragile a snake is. A quick shake and it's all over - very fast.

We get more than our share of visitors. I live in the centre of town, but we have 20 Rai of waste ground (jungle) in front of us and 4 empty building plots behind us, which are normally very overgrown.

We have a couple of Soi dogs, but it's out Rottweiler that does the killing. The only thing she's afraid of is fireworks and thunder. Probably, the biggest visitor I've released from her jaws was a large monitor lizard, I was in time to save that one. Amazing how fast they can run.

Our dog is the same when the thunder lightning starts especially last weeks storm he comes into house then house smells of wet dog, another is when the monkeys pay a visit I think they called macaques he doesn't like them at all, they come to drink out of our large water lily pot thingy and pinch a few bananas from our one tree, and if dog goes near they show their huge fangs.

The shake simply breaks its back. It may still be able to bite you though!

Girl dies after being bitten in bed by cobra

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... bottom_box

SURAT THANI: A nine-year-old girl was found dead in her bed on Wednesday morning after being bitten overnight by a cobra also discovered under the blanket.

Prapawee Prawat was found dead by grandparents at their home in Chaiya Buri district, police said.

Pol Maj Thankorn Meenim of Chaiya Buri police station said when he examined the girl he saw what seemed to be a snake bite on her right forefinger.

She appeared to have been dead for at least eight hours, he said.

Her grandmother and great grandmother told police they found a cobra in her bed under the blanket. It was later killed by their neighbours.

Prapawee's body was sent to Chaiya Buri Hospital for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.

That's sad.

What are you implying about snake lovers? I love elephants too but wouldn't allow one in the house. Actually I think maybe more people are killed by elephants each year than snakes?

I think you would notice the elephant trying to get under the blanket.
