Marriage to a Thai lady: looking for the real answers

Post by NY2LA »

I have read numerous articles and everyone has an opinion. Now I would like to get the real info from those of you who have married a Thai girl. I would like to hear from everyone but in particular if you are in your early to late 60's and she is in her mid 30's. I have known her for 2.5 years via the internet and Skype. She is educated, professional, single, no children, and speaks fair to med English.
I am arriving this January to spend 35 days with her going to Bkk, Hua Hin, Phuket, Chiang Mai and her town of Phayao. Now your honest opinion is appreciated.

It is of course impossible to say what will happen, so do as s-d suggests and come and enjoy yourself with your lady, don't be too expectant and just see what happens. Many a guy has met his wife in the same circumstances and lived/married her and been very happy, but unfortunately, others have taken the jump and lived to regret it. Assuming you go in with eyes wide open and don't rush anything, you'll know if its to be or not - just be careful about making any commitments too quickly. Good luck.

Above all, do not rush into anything. If you are being pressurized into anything
- either by your inner self or anyone else - it will not be to your benefit, ever.

The pertinent point is not that she is Thai , it is the 30 year age difference. The question is are you prepared to accept the underlying reasons why she finds a relationship with you attractive ?

To me, an important thing to remember is that a question such as this tends to attract a lot answers from those who have had bad experiences, while those who are happy rarely speak out. You can never be sure that you are getting a balanced response.

quite an itinerary considering it's your first meeting. Enjoy but don't over spend or make any commitments. A real knowledge of each other takes longer than 5 weeks

Have you been to Thailand before?
Have you dated an Asian woman before?
Get to know her professional, family. interests and educational background

Above all ENJOY the trip with no strings

Incidentally does NY and LA stand for New York and Los Angeles? Have you and I communicated before?

Enjoy your trip as it will be a real "eye-opener". You may have to best 5 weeks you have had in the past 50 years. Passion & Lust & Love will rule the day. You will be a teenager again.

Commit to nothing except that you will come back. Make NO financial commitments. Then go home.

It's those 2nd and 3rd trips that will really tell the tale and they are rarely like the 1st.

Good luck.

I feel tempted to say :violin: :troll:

But my polite response would be: Read a book. There are several books on the subject. Make a search and you shall find.

Exploring the fundamental differences east meets west age difference and so forth my wife did read her half and told me " lots of this is true" but I never really had time to read my half. :D
Big Boy is right it's far harder for people to talk about positive happy tails of relationships but been with my mrs 8 years now and am happy with my life.

None of us know what she does for a living but I assume she works somewhere. If that is the case will her employer be giving her the time off to travel or will she be quitting her job? If she does quit her job she might be expecting you to take care of her. That's fine if it works out for you guys and that's in your plans but what happens if it doesn't go as planned? Does she have a back up plan or are you her only plan? I don't mean to sound rude about it but its something you should think about. Once you fly back home she will have to continue with her life, with or without you.

My honest opinion is that if you need to ask this sort of question at your age and after knowing the person for "2.5 years" on the internet and Skype you should stay home, because as sure as eggs are eggs you are going to get fleeced !
