The wife always talks with her friends and ends up bringing designer purses, sunglasses, etc. Expensive stuff but thats all they ask for. They pay her when she gets there of course

Anything genuine with a designer label on it. Years ago used to get away with make up sets you get in the airport as long as it had Dior, Chanel or something similar on it. Now, as per the first response the preferred gift is paper with numbers on it as long as it can be exchanged here. US 100 dollar bills preferred as long as they are post 2000 as earlier issues will not be accepted at the counters. UK pounds, AUS dollars, SA Rand or any recognised currency including Chinese Yuan. They are not fussy about nationality and are usually very happy to receive gold as long as it is pure.

PS- Don´t by gold - they only want Thai gold. This can be pawned or sold easily.

As stated recognised branded goods. A good quality perfume will go down well and won't break the bank too much.

I was always told that Thai women believe a gift of perfume from boyfriend or husband will bring bad luck. Might be worth checking first.

A friend of my wife is going to the UK tomorrow. She's asked my wife what she can bring her back, and she has asked for 'expensive' perfume.

She didn't actually use the word expensive, but quoted a brand name, which is expensive.

This sounds awfully similar to the Thai men who drink 'expensive' whisky - by the thimbleful, and drowned with coke and ice. Are you sure that what they are asking for by using the term 'expensive' isn't simply the cachet of brand ownership bragging rights? My feeling is you would be wasting your money.
