Yes Kendo, whenever I've been up to visit family in the NE, beef only seems to appear on special occasions, and even then, it is typically only made for the men to snack on while drinking. Usually served up as a beef version of spicy pork salad (laab), but it's served raw rather than cooked, and eaten with sticky rice.

Hopefully no dog meat mixed in.

As far as dogs being able to smell whether or not you have eaten dog, I don't know, but you are right about them being able to smell cancer. In a trial a few months ago, dogs that were instructed to sniff out prostate cancer had a success rate of more than 90%. For anyone who is interested, German Shepherds were used in the trial.

Airborne molecules that elicit a reaction in a member of the same species are called pheromones, and the most famous ones are potent aphrodisiacs, like androstenone and androstenol in the saliva of male boars. If a fertile female gets a whiff of these molecules, she’ll present her rear to the male, a universal gesture in wild pig patois that means, “Let’s start a family.”
Dog-eaters beware!

I signed the last petition and then got a bleedin' hearts e-mail monthly from the cause.

Due to that, I am not signing anymore. I can't remember ticking a box allowing emails to me.

Good luck anyway.

I must apologise for the lateness of this but... I'm clutching at straws right now to make conversation with, what is, a good group of people here. After Lev's last post, I feel inclined, as a long term member, to start posting a bit more.

The fellow who owns the foot below, had recently eaten loads of dog meat - he won't be doing that again.

There seems to be more love for cats here than for dogs.

I'm not sure about cats, but if my in-laws are anything to go by, then I would says there's definitely more love for chickens.

Today, because of the spam e-mails I got from signing the last petition - I'm having me a dog meat burger for dinner.

Gonna taste bloody good too... would never have done it if it weren't for the spam emails I got from my last signing of the 'Save the Soi Dogs' campaign.

Soi dog 'a la carte.'

Because of this guy spamming me with monthly e-mails, I'm now FOR the eating of dogs. It's amazing how some very poor, and intrusive, PR can lead to the opposite effect.

Soi dogs - eat them, boil them, dice and slice them... I'm now all for it due to that prick that kept e-mailing me unwanted emails after I'd signed, in good faith, his petition.

Well done Mr Soi Dog lover, you're intrusion has turned, at least one person, against your cause. Which, by the way, is one of the most pointless causes worth fighting for at's it's not exactly high up in the 'importance' agenda.

TicTac, I see you are located in Hua-Hin as well, so I'm assuming you too have been thrown out of your own country, unless you are a Thai national. in which case, you should then take a look around you and take note of how dogs are treated here.

Calling everyone barbarians just because they don't share the same view as you do with regard to soi dogs, is in my opinion somewhat childish.

As a matter of interest, are you opposed to the way dog meat traders treat the dogs, or are you against people eating dog meat? If you're against dog meat consumption, then hopefully you're a vegetarian. If not, then you are a hypocrite.

Sorry pharvey, I wasn't fishing but simply stating that we shouldn't resort to uncivilised eating habits regardless of our opinions on dogs. We are in the 21st century even though living in Thailand. Lets just kill every fat falang who gives us grief and trouble

But uncivilised by whose standards? Yours, yes, but those that partake?
