Visa application whilst in Thailand (arriving from Taiwan)

Post by Bangkokney »

I have a mate that is arriving in Thailand next month from Taiwan (no embassies there).

He wishes to stay in Udon Thani for 9 months before he heads out to start a new job.

I assume he can apply for extentions or a multiple re-entry visa at the Nong Khai Immigration office ...

Anybody got any expereince either arriving from Taiwan - applying for a visa whilst in Thailand at either the BKK office or outside ?

I'm not sure if people coming from Taiwan get any special dispensation because there isn't an embassy - but I would doubt it.
Reckon your friend will get a 30 day visa on arrival. I also can't see them getting a visa at Nong Khai or BKK. All visas must be issued outside of Thailand. Even retirement and marriage visas begin with a non O obtained outside of the country.
Would think that the best thing is to go over to Laos and get a double/triple entry tourist visa to cover the time here. Vientienne can be a bit fickle with visas from what I've heard.
Hope that helps. Visas are a pain, eh? :guns:
PS. Many SE Asain Embassies are not giving out Non Imm visas, category "O". They're asking on what basis the person is applying - ie work, marriage, retirement etc etc. Not good enough to say that you want to stay for an extended period of time. It's all at the discretion of the immigration officer though.

Thai Visa Issued in Taiwan

There is a Thai Trade Office in Taipei which doubles up as a consulate and issues visas.

Your friend should be able to get a 60 day tourist visa there.
