Help please

Advice please. Now that I have hit the big 50, I know it is much easier to live full time in Thailand and my plan is to settle in Hua Hin within the next 6 months. I live in the Uk at present and holiday in Thailand 4 times a year. How do I go about getting a '1 year visa and from where! Your help will be much appreciated.

The government are always changing the rules, it looks like they're constantly striving to make it harder for us to stay here so in 6 months it could be different again.

Not sure about retirement visas but look at the website mentioned above, they seem to be upto date with their information.

I think this is the piece you are reffering to :

One-year stay financial threshold to double

BANGKOK: A high-ranking official in the Immigration Bureau in Bangkok has confirmed that the minimum financial requirements for any foreign man wishing to apply for a one-year permit to stay on the basis of being married to a Thai will double from July 10 next year.

Currently, a foreign man married to a Thai woman may obtain a one-year permit if he can show that he has at least 200,000 baht in a Thai savings account, or a monthly income of at least 20,000 baht.

From July 10 next year, these figures will be 400,000 baht and 40,000 baht respectively. This will apply to all applicants, including those who already have one-year permits.

Asked why the Immigration Bureau had decided to increase the threshold, the official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Gazette, “The bureau issued the new rule because they want to have quality foreigners staying in Thailand.

“They considered the value of the baht, which is weaker than other currencies.â€

Thanks for help. Looking forward to staying in Hua Hin but envisage will be be going back to the UK 4/6 times per year. I can spend 3 months in the UK in any one year. Will have to check if a 1 year visa is best or perhaps I should just use 3 month tourist visas. Anybody got any thoughts on that? Also starting my hunt for accommodation, where is the best place to stay? Would prefer near a pub!! :)
