Post by Arcan »

We want to have an at insurance our house/home. Somebody tells us that this is vaste of money in Thailand. Does anybody have experince in this matter? Isn`t worth while to have insurance for bugglery, fire etc like we do in Europe?

Why should it be waste of money only in Thailand? Fact is, that the Thais normally have no insurance. But I have a house insurance for fire, water, burglary and pay 3800 Baht per year for an insured value of 2 400 000 Baht.
There was an insurance broker as sponsor of HHAD but now he seems to have vanished.

If it's a second or holiday home you're insuring then check carefully the policy conditions to make sure you are covered when the house is unoccupied.

Contact Paul Nears with regards to house insurance for buildings and contents. His company provides cover for absentee landlords whether the hous is occupied or not.

Thank you whomever posted Pauls number as I had lost it. Whilst I have no experience of house insurance claims the car insurance has always been spot on with no questions asked.

Janp,
House insurance is definitly not a waist of money in Thailand. There are many insurance companies active on the Thai market and we (AA Insurance Brokers) are broker for a lot of them, but in general we only deal with the companies that provide the policies and service in English AND, most important, that have a reasonable claim handling.
The coverages they offer are from named perils to all risks. It depends on your personal situation what is the best option for you.
A very good company that we work with a lot offers a house insurance for 3,115 baht a year for the earlier mentioned example house of 2,400,000.
In our insurance practice we see that 90 % of the claims are paid for by the insurance companies. If they don't pay there is a reason for it.
Insurance companies here are just as reliable as the ones in Europe.
So please feel free to contact us.

You can also find Paul most nights at O`Neills bar which he owns. IMO a good place to do business!
