Hello Den
You get the 30 day visa on the plane.

Not so. They don't issue visas on the plane. Onboard the plane the air hostess will provide you with an arrival card for immigrations that you myst fill out prior to landing. In the airport you will have to go through immigrations police. If you are a genuine tourist and have a return ticket within thirty days you will normally be issued a thirty days tourist visa. Immigration authorities may ask additional questions and require proof of hotel reservation or residence, sufficient monies, etc. etc. However, in most cases passing immigrations is a matter of routine once you arrival card has been filled out as required. Have a happy holiday!

If you just spelt "have to" as "after" I wouldn't even issue you with a visa.

Technically, there's no such thing as a 30 day visa. What you get is a 30 day visa exempt stamp - ie you're allowed to stay for 30 days without having to obtain a visa before arriving.
As has been said, you'll be given an arrival/departure card on the plane, fill it in and submit to Immigration at the airport. In theory, Imm can ask to see proof of funds on arrival but in practice it never happens - unless you look like an "undesirable".
Lung Per mentioned a most important fact and that's that you must have a return or onward ticket out of Thailand within the 30 days. If you don't have one, the airline is almost certain to not allow you to board so you won't even pass Go. The reason for that is that if you're refused entry at Bangkok and you don't have a return/onward journey booked, the airline has to repatriate you at their expense and are fined.

When I learnt to spell, spelt was spelt 'spelt' or you could use spelled.
I thought that smelt a bit off and I've had my fingers burnt once or twice when dealing with non-English speakers when I've leapt in and they think I've spoilt it for them, but no need to cry over spilt milk. Maybe I dreamt it, but it's all very irregular.

I don't see that anyone's spelling should be a reason to divert from this thread.
Please, back to topic everyone.
