Import tax

Post by Gunnar »

Hi
I bought a motorbike in 2010.
Something whent wrong with the chrome on the rims.
I sent the wheels for repair/warranty to USA
The wheels came back via UPS to Thailand last week.
Now the customs control are asking for import tax, even if they know that my item has been away for repair.
A lot of things are strange in Thailand, but this can be right?

Anybody having any idea?

Thanks

do you have proof of shipping overseas (from Thailand)?
If so and you can show that to customs you shouldn't have a problem. Might have to fight with them a bit as they can be a pain in the arse.
GN.

Edit: was the bike originally purchased or imported into Thailand?

Proof already given.
UPS shipping document, pictures of the packages, pictures of the items, pictures of the person who picked the items up, pick up schedule from UPS..
As you can see, I have given them all documentation I have, but still customs telling me to pay fully import tax.
This is the last info I got (it's in Thailish, but we understand)
QUOTE
And please understand this is The Kingdom of Thailand and every shipment import to Thai and the importer might be pay import duty in every time and every person. Because this is customs regulation under Ministry of Public Health.

You paid at 2011 and for this time import again and this is customs regulation because they do not consider this how many time if you import again you have to pay again and again too.
QUOT END

I bought the bike brand new from a dealer in Bangkok

This doesn't sound right to me but it's the first time I've heard of someone exporting and then re-importing.
I would keep fighting them and good luck. Hopefully someone else on the forum has had experience on this.
Cheers,
GN.

Yes, unfortunately this is right. My company sells high value capital goods with of course a warranty. When parts are needed because they have failed or whatever, the parts are subject to import duty, even if you return parts for repair.....sorry
