Are documents notarized locally accepted in US?

Post by clinton114 »

Does anybody know: if I get a document (authorizing my daughter to endorse checks payable to me then deposit into my US bank) notarized locally - not at the US Embassy - would the notarized document be legally effective in the US? Thanks

Really up to the receiving party.
As you may be aware, there is no Notarial authority in Thailand but the Thailand Law Association have set up a pseudo system that is generally accepted by most authorities.
We regularly arrange such "Notarization" and have not yet seen any rejection by Embassies, etc.
Give it a try? Can recommend a lawyer who charges Baht 500. If interested, PM me.

We had to get a legal document notarized a few years ago and I asked the document receiver in the U.S. that question and they said it would have to be notarized by the U.S. Embassy notary.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Most Thai "Notaries" attach the following certificate.. which is in English and Thai. Over the years, I have never seen such rejected... but then again, Banks can be more demanding then most government departments...
