British Embassy Income Letter
British Embassy Income Letter
I'm determined to get this letter by post this year. Have taken a look at the Embassy's web site and all seems straightforward with the exception of the Postal Order that I've never got in Thailand.
Is it just a case of walking in the PO and asking for it? They'll understand what or where to put the payee and where it's to be cashed etc - I'll have those details?
If anyone can help on this I'd appreciate it.
One more thing, the Embassy say to allow 10 days for the letter. Is this a realistic time frame?

You're correct in that you just ask the post office for one made payale to The British Embassy. I used one when I was renewing passports at the Embassy. Although that was a few years ago, I'm sure they're still the same.

Yes you go to post office and ask for postal order ,it takes a while as not all know what it is. I have never asked them to nominate to whom or where just fill it in myself. I send it ems and return ems and 10 days is about right but remember 10 working days. Been doing it for 11 years no problems.

We did this just a few weeks ago.lomuamart wrote:I'm determined to get this letter by post this year. Have taken a look at the Embassy's web site and all seems straightforward with the exception of the Postal Order that I've never got in Thailand.

The website details the payee and the post office for the postal order. We printed this off and handed it to the post office clerk with the cash (don't forget the return EMS postage). They thought I wanted to pay via Western Union but soon got the postal order sorted.
Sent the paperwork plus postal order by EMS on the Thursday 3 July and received our confirmation of earnings letter (plus original documents) back the following Tuesday 8 July.

Thanks everyone. That seems dead easy and the turnaround time is good. Especially like the idea of printing off the relevant stuff from the Embassy's web site.

Postal order forms used to be on the left hand shelf as you sit down

I need to get this letter too this year.
Can anybody tell me the documents I need to send to the Embassy?

Follow this link https://www.gov.uk/notarial-and-documen ... r-thailand and some way down you'll see another link under Consular letter confirming pension/income. That will take you to a pdf and all will be revealed.
Took a quick look in the PO this morning for the postal order forms on the LHS, Richard, but all I could see were EMS forms. Place to too busy to try and ask someone but will go back when quieter.

I have also sent money orders from MV (2nd floor). Much quieter. However, only once. Second time I tried they obviously didn't have a clue and just said "go to post office in town". Was a lunchtime though and I suspect the girl was standing in for someone who knows the ropes.

I'm in no rush to do the extension (in fact I can't because still over 30 days away) and I'll pop into PO when it opens at 8.30am one day.

Let me know how you go on please Lomu. I'm going to be doing the same soon purely to free up some of my static 800000 bht as I recently starting receiving a pension.lomuamart wrote:I'm in no rush to do the extension (in fact I can't because still over 30 days away) and I'll pop into PO when it opens at 8.30am one day.

Will do. I'll be cracking on with things once the holiday is over.
Re: British Embassy Income Letter
I said that I would update on getting the income letter by post.
It was an easy exercise. The young girl at the Post Office was very efficient and filled the money order out for me. She asked if it was going to the British Embassy before I mentioned it so it wasn't the first time she'd dealt with the matter.
Fee was 2,520 THB for the letter plus 100 THB for return EMS service. I was also charged 60 THB for my EMS package to BKK and the money order, so 2,680 THB in total.
My package went off on the 20th August, arriving at the Embassy the next day. Return to me was on the 26th and the PO tried to deliver it on the 27th and 29th. It's sitting at the PO for me to collect.
I had asked the Embassy to deliver to my Box Number but they sent it to the home which threw me a bit as I don't check the mail box at home very much. The Embassy have sent stuff to the Box Number before.
So, as said, a convenient service - as long as the package is at the PO and I'll check on Monday. For an extra 160 THB, it saved me chancing my life on the minibuses up and down to BKK and kicking my heels there for a few hours while waiting for the letter to be issued.
Slightly edited I also found it quite amusing the the PO cashier wanted to put the English Embassy as the payee rather than the British Embassy. A quick geography lesson sufficed but I don't think she was convinced!!

Nice one Lomu. The geography lesson bit made me laugh.lomuamart wrote:I said that I would update on getting the income letter by post.

Re: British Embassy Income Letter
lomuamart Good for you and now it's over for another year.
A couple of questions if I may, did you have to put on the form, all income in the UK
IE State and Private pensions, investments, rental properties and money in the bank ETC.
Or is it just enough to prove that your income from the UK, covers what is required to cover the Baht 400k + money from abroad, type extension?
Secondly, does the return EMS package have to be signed for by the named person on the package at their home address, or can anyone sign for it?
If you asked them to deliver to your Box number, why did they choose to deliver to your home address instead?
I take it, that the applicant does not have to include a return address envelope/Package with their application, as I used to when applying for my 90 day extension by post, by including a SAE, but that the BKK Immigration dept, puts the address on the return package.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
