^^ Interesting. Normally a blue book is issued for residential property and a foreigner may have such a book but their name won't appear in the book unless they are permanent resident. So in that case the book only has page 1 completed, the house details. A yellow book has the same details on page 1 as a blue book, but foreigners can be registered as resident on the following pages.

If somehow a foreigner is registered in a blue book the only way to tell they are not a permanent resident would be the ID number assigned at registration.

As we all know, different ampheurs/tessabans seem to have their own rules anyway so it may not be so surprising that JJB and jungle have blue books.

By the way, it should be noted that a blue (or yellow) book does not provide proof of ownership of a house. The book is assigned to the house (not to the residents) and entries on page 2 and following provide a record of the residents. Usually the page 2 entry is that of the "house master" (usually, but not necessarily, the owner) and the following pages are for other residents.

Can't a foreigner own the house, but not the land? Perhaps that is a reason they can me listed on a blue book?

My understanding is that a foreigner can own a house, but not the land. In that case a blue book can be issued for the house, but the foreigner won't be listed as a resident, unless he is a PR. But JJB and jungle seem to prove otherwise.

I think the foreigner would need the blue book for such things as getting electricity connected.

This is how I understood it also, I know a couple of farangs with blue books as property owners but they are 'blank' in that there are no residents listed as living there, the farangs cant go in it as they dont have a Thai ID card/number. However, nothing would surprise me with "officialdom" in this country.

I don't think an ID number is a problem. Farang residents in a yellow book are assigned an ID number.

I totally agree with Buksi. The blue book of a farang house owner is linked with the house and the rest is blank. A yellow book is usually required for proof of address. The two cases mentioned are strange as it goes against The Condominium Act and The Land Act and a couple of other acts which are quite precise...... TIT

Before anything gets out of hand, I'm certainly not a special case and it's entirely possible my Blue Book is blank in the residents section; I haven't checked. It is blue, however, I'm not a PR and it has my name and my wife's in it. Where, I cannot say and am not able to check until later in the year. If the thread is still rumbling on by then I will report back, if only to confirm all is well in the world of compliance with Thai laws.

By the way, did I tell you I also have a Green Book for my scooter?

^^ JJB: Page 1 of a tabien baan is for the house details, there are no names on that page. Pages 2 onwards are for the details of those resident in the house, one person per page. There is no other possibility. Unless some kind official hand wrote your names as some sort of helpful gesture.

If your names are indeed in the residents pages the details must satisfy the regulations as defined in the registration computer system at DOPA (Department of Provincial Administration). It would be interesting to see your blue book pages.

Of course it's possible that for some reason the official who did the registration put a blue book in the printer instead of a yellow one. Both books are the same format.

Is your name on your own page, or on your child's page?

^^ So that's actually your child's registration info. It doesn't actually prove you're resident in the house. Everybody's details include their parents' names (if known). My entry includes my parents' names and they've never even been to Thailand. Nice of immi to accept the book as proof though. :D

Just gone through this process and finally have my yellow book, they also issue you with a Thai ID card now which should alleviate the need to carry your passport around.
