Not sure if Hua Hin are doing this but at Dansingkhon (Prachuap) they're wanting a few extra things now to extend tourist visas:

Did my 30 day tourist extension at HH immigration last Friday week ago and no change from previous applications, in and out in 30 minutes.

This is interesting, as a member from a Thai/UK based forum I use, has just had to undergo the same process as described in the OP's link, at Savannakhet, in Laos.

Nothing like consistency eh ...
I felt sorry for all of the bewildered tourists that were turned away because they didnt have or know that they now needed official proof of their accommodation arrangements.

I'm reading similar reports on extensions from various parts of the kingdom. Seems like a universal clampdown.
