Help: Sending UK marriage cert. to Thai embassy in London

Post by 404cameljockey »

OK I did a dumb thing. Two dumb things.

1) I sent the marriage cert to the UK FCO in London for apostille and asked them to send it back to me, not to the Thai embassy in UK. They did as I asked...

2) I forgot to give it to my wife to take to the UK last month to do it during her visit.

So, I need to send it to the Thai embassy in London, but feel unsure about sending it direct, as they seem to only talk about returning it to a UK address, which doesn't really work for me.

Has anyone used a Thai (or other) company in the UK that will handle this and return the document to me in Hua Hin by registered post?

I see on Facebook a company named 'Eng-Thai Translator/Interpreter' who offer such services, but I have no idea if they are reliable, and in fact they stopped responding to me after I asked for their street address and bank details.

Any ideas, please?

I think most people in your situation use a friend or family member in the UK to act as an intermediary. You need to arrange your own postage with the Embassy but I don’t know how it works with registered post.

Just a heads up: the High Court in Hong Kong has twice tried to return my marriage certificate to me here, by Registered Post, and although I was at home on both dates the postman couldn’t be arsed to ring my doorbell and my certificate got returned to HK. Result: I have to make a trip back there in person to collect it from the High Court, so if I were you I’d try to work out a reliable method of getting yours back to you.

Thanks both of you.

I'll have to enlist a friend's help in the UK then I think. I don't like to impose but seems the safest way.

That's really nice of you mate, but I'd hate to bother you.

Contrary to what some on this forum might believe, I do actually have some friends, and some of them are in the UK! :D
