There is of course an alternative. Get the visa outside of Thailand where financial requirements are not as strict and you don't have to transfer money every month. The only drawback is the 90 day visa runs but some may see those as road trips!

I think it's point 5 - the need for bank deposits of at least 800,000 Baht - no mention of the 3 month deposit time. Probably never advised to Farangs because it involves brainwork trying to work out if the deposits actually amount to the average monthly requirement. Other options were much easier for the desk officer. It's not as black and white as the other 2 methods, and would probably lead to many disputes i.e. How hard with exchange rate fluctuations will it be to work out the value of the deposit in month 1, month 2 etc. Any sudden drop in the home currency in month 11 could see some poor people left without their renewal because they only transferred 799,900 Baht in year.

However, I'm fairly sure this is the regulation the Embassy are referring to. A big mess.

I see, BB. The combination method which has always been available but the income side has had to be accompanied by an Emb letter. So, deposit 500K and you need to show income of 300K divided by 12 or 25K a month - with Emb letter.
And I don't think that's what the Emb are referring to. I read it that they're saying that you'll get the extension if you transfer 65K a month into a Thai bank.
With the vagaries of exchange rates, especially right now for Brits with Brexit, I'm afraid that if this is allowed then we'll just have to calculate things on the day of transfer. But say you were allowed to do it with two transfers a year then just make sure that each one is worth at least 400K when it gets here. That amount will show on your pass book/statements no matter what the exchange rate might drop to at the time of application for your next extension. I don't see that as a problem.

Luckily I am not Brit nor Yank. But who is responsible of your misery ? Not Thai immigration. Your own people, your government, embassy, civil servants.

Oh dear. You really are a grade 1 idiot. If you had bothered to read this thread, you would learn it is the new demands of Thai Immigration that are at the root of the problem and smug littler b****r that you are, you may well find yourself affected soon enough.

I actually thought what the Brit Embassy were doing was a much as could be done really. They required evidence of your income befre being being prepared to notarise them. In my case, that meant providing 12 months worth of pension statements from my employer (local government) and 12 months worth of statements confirming the details of my other income.

I think what the Thais are now requiring is unreasonable based on time, cost and legal constraints. The latter in the case of the UK, as no income provider can be compelled to provide this extra information.

So that means you are still working and I understand that it's not easy to get all documents about your incomes .
This is not the case of retired. We only need proof of retirement money and can have from embassy.
In my case I do not request this document which costs nearly 1500 Bht. I can afford to show money on my account with the 3 month request. As far as the idiot I am knows, it's not a requirement by Thai immigration. If it is it's due to the forged documents given by embassies. I know from a US citizen living here that he always received a certificate from his embassy without any verification.

The discrepancy between married and unmarried income is strange. Do the Thais think it's cheaper to be married than single.

I bank with Citibank and they don't issue a passbook, only monthly email statements. I don't know what I'll have to do if Immigration insists on passbooks. The Land of Everything Made Complicated and Difficult.

So just to confirm about this new rule..

After 12th December, the way to prove your income will be to show your Thai bank book at immigration and that you have transferred 40k or 65k ( depending on circumstances) into your account from overseas for the last 3 months ?

You don't need to show proof how you earned this money in your own country , be it pension, house rental etc ?

Sounds pretty straight forward if correct.

Or maybe it's going to be a bit more complicated than that..

^ ^ That brings up another question. Citibank is licensed to do business here, but does it qualify as a "Thai bank" as far as immigration is concerned.

Does anyone on a retirement extension have their 800,000 in a foreign licensed bank instead of a Thai bank? Pete

An embassy cannot certify income from work or rented house or condo. Only official retirement money can be certified. All other documents are forged and maybe this is a good thing to reduce all those swindlers.

Rubbish. I've satisfied the British Embassy and Imm for the past 11 years with rental income from my property in London. I just supply the current tenancy agreement.
Nowhere is it stated that income for retirement purposes needs to come from a pension.

No, I am not still working. I have no idea why you think that?

I don't think any Embassy gives out forged documents. I can understand why the US have gone down the afferdavit route and the UK the notarising route. The latter clearly carries more substance than the former, but no matter how diligent the Embassy, I am sure there are some fake and forgeries that get through. Other Embassies will do whatever suits them.

But you're wrong stating it's not a requirement by Thai Immigration. The British Embassy have explained clearly why they understandably cannot comply with this new requirement. It's in this thread, read it.

I agree, the British Embassy certainly wouldn't knowingly give out forged letters. However, something I had never considered until now - with modern technology, how easy would it be to forge the pension letters that we provide to the Embassy?

So maybe with English not being europtimiste's first language, he is trying to say issuing letters based on forged evidence. That would make sense to me now that I know the Embassy only does a quick check of the evidence provided.
