non immigrant visas

Post by lomuamart »

Does anyone out there have any UP-TO-DATE, RELIABLE info on obtaining Non O visa from Penang or Vientianne and the current requirements? I got mine last year in the UK. It expires on Sept 22.

your best bet is to take a look at www.thaivisa.com

Does your visa expire in Sept' or is your 90 day stay going to expire ?

Maybe I'm teaching you to suck egss but don't forget you can can leave the country and re-enter for another 90 days as long as you re-enter before the last day stamped on your Non Im visa, effectively getting 15 months out of a 12 month visa ... I have just done exactly that! My Non Im' expires on the 6th but I have an entry stamp until 27th October ...

Do you have a Non O based on marriage or supporting a Thai national ? obviously requirements a different for both.

My Non O is based on having custody of a Thai national from a previous marriage. I provided copies of my Work Permit and my Birth Cert', my daughter's Birth Cert' and that was it. This was a year ago now in the UK. It should be noted that requirements change from Embassy to Embassy.

I know 'Harry Potter' has recently got a new Non O from Penang perhaps drop him a personal message if he does not reply here.

I understand requirements vis a vis income or cash in the bank change in a few days time. I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunity to read about this in the press as and when an announcement is made.

Perhaps ATAdmin might like to comment on that.

As of a couple of months ago neither Penang nor Vientienne were offering more than 6 months. This may have changed as apparently the limitation was put on the issuing of 1 year visas due to 'terrorist threats'.

Thanks for the info. My visa expires Sept 22. Got to leave by Aug 12, so will get my final 90 days then. Will look at the web site. Didn't know the financial requirements were changing. Will look out for that. Asking around town, the general consensus is that you need 800,000 B in a Thai bank, or income of 65,000 pm. What isn't clear is whether the income has to be deposited in a Thai bank, or is sufficient to be in a UK bank, with withdrawls being made via ATM in Thailand.
Suppose I'll find out in due course. Will settle for a double entry tourist visa if necessary to make the trip worthwhile.

I don't know if there are any crossed wires here but as far as I know the income or savings in a Thai bank requirements are only relevant if you wish to stay in the country without having to go out every 3 months. This may depend on the basis of your visa however, but I wasn't aware that it was. I have previously obtained the non 'O' visa in London on the basis of marriage to a Thai but have never had to show evidence of income or savings. I also heard that neighbouring countries were not issuing non-immigrant visas but have no direct evidence of this. Hope that is of some help.[/b]

Again, thanks for the info. As usual, it's all pretty confusing in thailand. a friend of mine got a non "O" last month in Penang. His previous one had been issued in the UK. When he met a visa agent down there, he was told that he might have trouble getting it as Penang had no history of him. Fortunately, he'd taken his Thai bank book and that was sufficient to get the required stamp.
I've still got a while to sort it out. Will let everyone know how it went later in the year. Hopefully, I'll not have to end up in Malaysia!! lol

If you've got a multiple entry non O visa, then you get 90 days each time you enter Thailand.
So, say your visa is issued tomorrow, 22nd Nov 2004. You'll see that it is stamped "valid until 22nd Nov 2005". After the latter date, the visa is finished.
So, you arrive on Dec 1st 2004. You'll be permitted to stay for 90 days. Before the 90 days is up, exit the country and re-enter. You'll get another 90 days. You can exit as many times as you want, receiving the 90 day stay, until 22nd Nov 2005.
If you make your last visa run on 21st Nov 2005, you'll get an additional 90 days, thus making your visa work for you for 15 months - give a day or two.
Hope that made sense.
