Re: Fish and Chips
Its been a long time and me and the missus decided that we wanted some nice fish and chips for a Saturday evening treat, we tried Gifs kitchen a couple of weeks ago and was not impressed, so we called into Bar Tenders new place - now on the corner next to the original BT, (which is now run by Luciano and called "Lucianos" .. Does a nice pasta by the way, shame he doesnt do Pizza)... I spoke to Ron and he tells me he will be fully open in 2 weeks with a Farang and Thai menu, we had a couple of beers in his new beer garden - very pleasant - and ordered fish and chips to take away.. It took a long time to come, but it was worth the wait... Recommended. [Mod Edit] self promotion, or self promotion through a 3rd party is not permitted - phone number removed. By the way, a good second place to BTs Fish and chips is Lins cafe
Re: Fish and Chips
I have been spoiled by being brought up on fish and chips in Grimsby, and no where else has come close to matching Grimsby fish n chips
Re: Soi 94 - More changes
Cheers BB and Pagey..........I'll stop by for some F&C or a Cornish pasty on Wednesday. Fish and chips are really popular in SA, and basically the same as in the UK......it was a British colony after all......
, so I do appreciate a good F&C on occasions, but actually gave up looking years ago.

Takiap : Not quite the same as Grimsby, Hull or the Waterfront in Cape town
but here there is no North Sea or Icelandic cod but it's a big portion of battered fish & real chips
My Thai missus loves F & C from there.
Order it early or for take away as it takes around 45 mins to prepare.
Next time I will try Lin's F & C which also comes recommended.

Re: Fish and Chips
Can't argue with that - Had some lovely fish and chips on the east coast, Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Skegness. Those were the days of plentiful cod, sadly in decline now.
Re: Soi 94 - More changes
Lins f&c are probably the worst I have had in HH, try it if you must but not a patch on others mentioned

As far as I'm concerned F & C is fish deep fried in batter.
I'm prepared to compromise on the type of fish, for obvious reasons, but fish in bread crumbs, however tasty it may be, is simply not "Fish 'n Chips" as we know it, Captain.

I agree totally. They are two completely different meals, and are even prepared differently. One is deep fried in batter, the other is crumbed and fried in a pan. This is actually while I gave up ordering F&C in Thailand, because I kept getting served crumbed fish. I quite enjoy a crumbed fish fillet, but it just doesn't compare to proper F&C.

Re: Soi 94 - More changes
The two times I tried F & C in HH I thought it was crap, so I stopped ordering it. That crapitude had everything to do with my hate of bread crumbed fish. F & C I'd eaten in the US was always battered. Thought you Brits were odd for preferring it crumbed. I've now seen the light and will try some local battered versions.dtaai-maai wrote:As far as I'm concerned F & C is fish deep fried in batter.

Isn't everything always the fault of the Thais...?Takiap wrote:And here I was thinking the bread crumbed fish was an American things.
Okay, so who is responsible for crumbed fish then?
