My reading of this is that masks should be worn when leaving the house rather than putting them on before entering shops etc.

I think that has always been the case. However, interpretation has often been the latter.

Actually, WHO Thailand in their notice today state that masks should be worn in crowded places when not able to social distance.

It is important that members of the public continue to follow preventive measures including distancing, regular handwashing, avoiding touching the face, wearing masks when visiting crowded places and coughing only into a folded elbow or a tissue (which should be disposed of safely).

Asia has led the world in promoting wearing of masks with excellent results. There were many naysayers along the way, but wearing of masks is gradually winning people over.

Honestly, they need to coordinate their press releases to avoid confusion. Too many cooks in the kitchen comes to mind.

I’m totally in agreement with wearing masks, however as many people have commented (incl you I believe BB) the wearing of masks in Thailand has reduced considerably over the past few months with no noticeable increase in infections?

No increase because Covid was eradicated. It's back, so a need to go back to our own lessons learned.

The note says free. The way I see it, it has to be free if they are serious about identifying victims. If people have to pay, human nature says only the most desperate will spend their hard earned cash.

However, to answer your question honestly, I don't know, and hope I don't have to find out.

Are you guys living in Hua Hin going for regular tests? The reason I ask is because at least ten people I know here in Luxembourg have had it but with no sign of any illness, they just tested positive at regular screenings.

It seems the numbers aren't affected only by testing or lack of it.

Pretty certain it’s the complete opposite - almost nobody is being tested as far as I’m aware, other than those living in the areas affected by the recent outbreak

Added to that, the new cases are reported as over 90% being asymptomatic. Without mass testing there could be large numbers wandering around not knowing they have it. A very dangerous development.
