Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Quite right with regards to testing numbers - how many tests have Thailand truly carried out, how many cases do they truly have? That said, it's seems remarkable how the country has seemingly avoided the huge outbreaks effecting many other areas in the world.

Re: Coronavirus Precautions/News/Updates for Hua Hin
Over the last 3 days the infection rate is steady 212,245,249, a slight rise.
Woke up this morning breathing that's a good start to the day.
Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
There's simply no logical way that they're able to nip a rampant virus in the bud like this save resorting to Chinese warfare tactics on people. Which there haven't been.
I think the higher ups are now happy with the numbers, will cease that moral destroying God-awful testing that ruins all the pretty graphs and claim victory, once again, over the virus.
A solid win for Prayut and his team who have worked tirelessly to avoid another spread. Drinks will be flowing. Commendations given. Medals received.
Or perhaps I'm being too cynical?

I very much doubt that!

Actually, if you look at local infections minus those found in quarantine etc, the numbers are 187, 181, 176.lindosfan1 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 8:22 pmOver the last 3 days the infection rate is steady 212,245,249, a slight rise.
So heading in the right direction.
Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Cha-cha and his lying bungling backpedaling muppet ministers deserve no such thing. One idiot (Anutin I think) wanted to prevent 'lawbreakers' from getting medical treatment, I presume he doesn't know that the virus doesn't care. Charging for tests and waiting a week for the results is also absurd. It takes ten minutes in South Korea and everyone can have one for free regardless of what country they came from or skin colour they have. Credit should be given to the majority of the Thai people that have shown higher levels of vigilance during this outbreak than their western counterparts. The junta's response has been farcical at best, they've had a full year to prepare for this second wave, it shouldn't have occurred at all.
Moving on ...
Herd immunity unlikely this year, say experts
The roll-out of coronavirus vaccines in many countries will not provide herd immunity from the global pandemic this year, several health experts said on Monday, citing limited access for poor countries, community trust problems and potential virus mutations.
"We won't get back to normal quickly," Dale Fisher, chairman of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Outbreak Alert and Response Network, told the Reuters Next conference.
Employers and employees are allowed to defer or stop financial contributions to company provident funds for another six months, a senior Finance Ministry official said on Monday.
"We know we need to get to herd immunity and we need that in a majority of countries, so we are not going to see that in 2021," Dr Fisher said. "There might be some countries that might achieve it but even then that will not create 'normal' especially in terms of border controls."
That was a best-case scenario, based on current knowledge of the vaccines being rolled out, Dr Fisher said.
Herd immunity refers to a situation where enough people in a population have immunity to an infection to be able to effectively stop that disease from spreading.
Pandu Riono, an epidemiologist at the University of Indonesia, said a dangerous over-reliance on the coming vaccines by some governments meant herd immunity could not be achieved in the near term.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Actually, if you compared this to the size of the problem elsewhere, I doubt there would be much difference. In the initial outbreak, it was the army boxing stadium that ignored guidance along with all those attending that were a major problem, as were those guys returning from abroad drinking in a bar in Thonglor.
Recently, a 67 year old market trader in Samut Sakhon, flouted the rules by employing Burmere she knew damn well had been illegally trafficed, thus avoiding all checks, the Thais who crossed the border in the North and then flew to Bkk and goodness knows where else and there are many other such examples. The problem with these is that they were all facilitaed by Government officials.
I was in Khon Khaen until Saturday and there has been outrage up there that a male who went to the hospital with a fever and has the virus, was previously known to have resided at an address in Ang Thong, that the authorities were seeking to trace all those associated with. Basically, he fled, when he arrived in KK, he carried on as normal, visited markets, restaurantes, bars, even a school. All had to be closed and cleansed and so on.
Talk is cheap

SINOVAC, ASTRAZENECA ASK THAI FDA TO APPROVE VACCINES
Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday said it received requests from two international pharmaceuticals to approve their coronavirus vaccines for use in the kingdom.
The requests were filed by Sinovac and AstraZeneca, who are based in China and the United Kingdom, respectively, FDA sec-gen Paisarn Dunkum told reporters, as the number of new reported coronavirus cases hit nearly 300 on Tuesday.
Paisarn did not say how long it would take before a decision is made. The Thai government said it has secured millions of doses from the two companies for its vaccination campaign, starting with “vulnerable groups” in the five provinces hardest hit by the coronavirus.
On the same day, the government’s coronavirus response center said it registered 287 new infections over the past 24 hours – slightly higher than the previous tally of 249 reported yesterday.

Stupid is the new normal. Or, maybe, the exacerbated old normal.
Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
With the Chinese vaccine only having a 50% efficacy rate, it will be interesting to see how they decide who gets which vaccine.
Isn't that the vaccine that CP group (7/11 etc) own 15% of ?

GADFLY RAISES CONCERN OVER CP’S HAND IN CORONAVIRUS VACCINE DEAL
A transparency activist on Monday demanded an investigation into whether the government is favoring large conglomerates in its bid to vaccine Thailand’s population against the coronavirus.
In a petition submitted by Srisuwan Janya to the Office of the Ombudsman, the campaigner said CP, one of Thailand’s largest corporations, has its hand deep in the sales and distribution of Chinese-made coronavirus vaccines and is therefore a potential conflict of interest – an allegation denied by CP.
Srisuwan said he had his concerns after news emerged that the vaccines developed by Beijing-based Sinovac Ltd, where CP recently acquired a 15 percent ownership, are set to be rolled out before the doses made by British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.
“Did the government give some benefits to Sinovac, since jao sua has stocks in it?” Srisuwan said by phone, using a term that refers to CP founder and tycoon Dhanin Chearavanont. “I’m suspicious as to whether there is some kind of connection behind that.”
