Keep reducing the testing and dropping selective figures and they'll reach their goal: - "There is no Covid in Thailand"

Nothing is matching today between the current Bangkok Post article, and the SAT-MOPH chart. Therefore we're ending coverage a day early without posting data for May 31. Go to the below links later in the day to see if data has been properly adjusted and reported.

I think we covered the possibility of this happening already in pages above, but here it is again anyway.

Covid-tracking MorChana app closed down

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... losed-down

The Public Health Ministry on Wednesday shut down its Covid-location tracking app MorChana, ahead of the disease being declared endemic.

The ministry said that apart from the expected endemic declaration, it ended the use of MorChana (doctors win) because the local Covid-19 situation had improved and the government did not require people arriving in the country to use the app any more.

All organisations involved would erase data related to MorChana, the ministry said.

Last year the government urged people to use the app to support its efforts to control Covid-19. The app was launched in April 2020.

Someone needs to tell MV and the other places that still have guards wanting you to sign in and out or is that something different? I've never signed in anywhere so I don't know.

The door has now been flung open by this, while at the same time the PM's office in Bangkok said that there is no plan to end mask wearing, anywhere.

Phuket drops outdoor face mask requirement

https://thethaiger.com/news/phuket/phuk ... sk-mandate

Wearing a mask in outdoor public spaces will no longer be a requirement in Phuket province, effective from yesterday, June 1. Medical or cloth face masks will still be required to be worn indoors, in crowded spaces and in badly ventilated spaces. The mask requirement – indoors and outdoors – is still in effect in all other provinces around the kingdom, for the meantime anyway.

In Phuket only, people may remove their masks at the beach, public parks, sports stadiums and other public areas, but are urged to keep a social distance of 2 metres at all times.

Last week, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health Kiattiphum Wongrajit announced the ministry would drop the mask mandate, in outdoor spaces, in “certain areas” of Thailand to begin with. The ministry said the mask requirement could be dropped in areas with a low case numbers of Covid-19 cases, a high vaccination rate and “medical preparedness”.

Currently, Phuket is the only province where the outdoor mask mandate has been dropped.

As for the rest of Thailand, the ministry said people could expect the outdoor mask mandate to be dropped around mid-June. However, just two days ago, a spokesperson for Thailand’s PM Prayut Chan-o-cha’s said “the government has no plan to allow people to remove face masks because it is necessary to prevent the spread of Covid-19.”

Seen on "ASEAN NOW"
Daily News reported that rules regarding the wearing of face masks were back on again in Phuket after they had been stopped.
The reason was fear of Covid outbreaks.
Now it's back to the original plan.

The media said that Phuket was the first province to pilot not wearing masks and the order to stop their wearing from June 1st was quite clear.

Advice from medics scuppered that.
The order came yesterday just one day after the new rule was started. It is effective immediately.
They have to be worn outside and on private transport.
The only exceptions are when eating or drinking or while exercising.
The order was signed by the governor.

What we may be seeing here is the unwillingness of the central people in Bangkok giving up their power after being drunk with it for the past 2 years. Going back into oblivion is not a pleasant thing for some. In other words, "I'll tell you when and where you can take a mask off, no one else".

Frankly, here in the east when out and about you see more Thais now without one than with one in outside areas. That's the direct opposite from a month ago. Actually that's probably the best route, allow it all to simply go away slowly and quietly.

World Health Organisation says two-thirds of population has Covid-19 antibodies

https://thethaiger.com/news/world/world ... antibodies

The World Health Organisation says over two-thirds of the population will have significant Covid-19 antibodies, thanks to either vaccination or prior infection. The WHO cited a summary of global studies that shows the rate of seroprevalence jumped from 16% in February 2021 to 67% in October.

According to a Bloomberg report, officials say that the rapid spread of the Omicron variant could mean the figure is even higher by now. The latest data shows how global resistance to the virus is improving. The WHO adds that while vaccines only offer limited protection against infection with Omicron, all countries should still increase their inoculation rates, particularly for those in high-risk groups.

The organisation points out that vaccination still provides greater protection against severe illness than previous infection alone. However, people who’ve previously had Covid-19 and are also fully vaccinated are the best protected against severe illness, but the WHO says it’s not yet known if that remains the case with new variants.

Meanwhile, the data shows lower levels of seroprevalence in both children under the age of 9 and people over the age of 60, when compared with people in their 20s. In lower and middle-income countries, the seroprevalence is mostly the result of prior infection as opposed to vaccination.

The WHO says levels of antibodies will wane over time and will depend on a lot of other factors, with more research required to determine how long protection lasts.
