Prachuab officials to reorganize Hua Hin beach
Re: Prachuab officials to reorganize Hua Hin beach
The open air restaurant that was on the curve over looking the beach north of the Hilton is gone. I am assuming it was closed down. It was very busy.
I really like this forum because there are no personal attacks. All the members contribute in a positive way to my posts.

Eventually did my beach walk this morning from the Sofitel to Khao Takieb and I didn't notice one beach enterprise that had stopped yet. Seemed to be business as usual, albeit very slow.

I speak with one of the ladies working there before they closed, and she said it's for renovating and should take 4 days. Now 2 weeks later she told me they are waiting for for the new stuff to arrive,so lets see how long time before they open,if ever.JamesWest wrote:The open air restaurant that was on the curve over looking the beach north of the Hilton is gone. Love to sit there with a beer, and enjoy the view and there's always a good breeze.

Today is the day they were going to be evicted etc. Does anybody know if it happened.
I'd also heard that they'd requested a 7 day stay of execution, asking for leniency over the coming busy weekend after a harsher than normal low season.

They were all operational when I walked the beach to Takieb between 9.30 and 11am.
Saw some officials talking to the people who run the small beach hut place right at the end at Monkey Mountain and that was it.

Then where would you sit?
Re: Prachuab officials to reorganize Hua Hin beach
On the sand like people do everywhere else in the world... I lived near the beach in California and even closer in Florida and I never saw pre installed umbrellas or chairs except directly in front of a few resorts, and then they sat them up one at a time as asked or paid for.
Normally people the world over take their own gear to the beach including beach towels, cooler full of drinks and food, umbrellas, etc.
I was never bothered by a vendor on a beach until I came to Thailand.

Hopefully they will actually get there marching orders. By far the most annoying are the horses (and what they leave on the beach)

Lugging all your own gear to the beach is fine if a) you have umbrellas, coolers etc to hand and b) have your own car to take you there (and there are convenient parking facilities). Short term tourists generally have neither - how many tourists here hire cars? And airlines are a bit sniffy about people trying to stuff beach umbrellas into overhead lockers.hhfarang wrote:On the sand like people do everywhere else in the world... Pre installed sunbeds and umbrellas are absolutely normal around the Mediterranean (struggling to carry all your own gear is sooo not chic you know - one might damage one's manicure) and also in Goa, Bali etc. I think most European tourists view them as a amenity that they expect to find.

Sunbeds, deck chairs, tables, restaurants, service and beers is a must at the beech IMO.
I go to relax, not to lug my own stuff there and back, serve my own food and clear up the mess afterwards.
The only thing I would personally remove from the beaches here in HH are the horses and the s@&t that comes with them.

Other beach resorts I've been to both in the U.S. and tropical destinations in the Caribbean and South Pacific provide such ammenities for tourists, but on a one off basis setting them up when someone asks or pays for them, and taking them down when they leave. I've never been to anywhere in the world (I visited over 50 countries, mostly tropical) that sets up an "umbrella jungle with chairs" essentially becomming a solid roof with crowded seating underneath like here in Hua Hin.
I'm not advocating against it as I don't really care, just saying that I think it is a bit unusual.

Umbrella jungles are common in Mediterranean resorts. I have been harassed on beaches in Europe and the caribbean much worse than Thai.
I walk on the beach several times a week. If I go at or within an hour or so of low tide-- no problem. The kiters can be a nuisance but they are always polit and try not to obstruct
