And someone entering the fray with info from another forum, which doesn't say whether the incident was witnessed or just hearsay, but asks if anyone witnessed the incident, which suggests they didn't?
So no-one knows what really happened then?

My advice is leave the tuff guy act in falangland. IME Thais are generally polite and reasonable. Just let them win the unimportant stuff.
If its important be reasonable and soft-spoken, usually everything can be worked out.

Going back 5 years I had an incident with a Thai bloke in the Celtic bar, he pulled my wife backwards off a stall and when I told him off, he kept goading me, now out of respect for my wife, as she was begging me not to fight I did nothing but I was so angry.
She told me that it does not matter who started it YOU will loose and the police will allways back a Thai.
As a.man that used to do a bit of bare knuckle sport I wanted to smash him but that day I listened to my wife, even now the dick head remembers me when he is selling his food in the U-turn.
Kendo.

Good for you Kenny to swallow your pride. You could have suffered damage from his mates AND you would have had to pay.

Thailand's just like anywhere else. Unless the man is a paid assassin, a bold thief, or extremely drunk, a foreigner is not going to be physically attacked unless something preceded the event. Rudeness or perceived rudeness, cheating on a bar bill or something that provoked the Thais involved. That video looks to me as if the bar girl pointing the finger and swinging the stool may have been the person to make the complaint to her Thai friends. Pete

Its interesting Pete to see the BGs in the background all looking at Mr. Poorsod. The Thai man walks up to the round bar table and maybe the finger is pointed Poorsod where upon he veers to Poorsod and shoves him first to get a reaction then the BGs wade in.
I am glad for the 'victim' he was hit with platic chairs and not something harder.

Re: Mr Plum post on protecting yourself.
I used to teach de-escalation/control and restraint techniques The problem with that approach is that by curling up you are presenting the assailant a football.
it's a little hard to describe but the better approach is to lie on your side facing the kicks. As the person kicks, his foot can be blocked/diverted by your hands. As he moves around to get a another kick. you spin on your side still facing his feet. In addition to blocking the kick, he is also off balance whilst kicking and the foot can be grabbed and pulled, usually bringing him to the ground. As he falls to the ground you have the advantage.
This of course only works when one person is kicking you.
If there are several kicking the advice is to curl up as Mr Plum rightly suggests
Better to apologise - even if you are in the wrong - and walk away. Losing face is better than losing your life

I have to say that in more than thirty years of spending far too much of my life in the worlds bars, (ten years in the military followed by twenty years of wandering around fixing airplanes), I've never seen a completely unprovoked attack on anyone, ever, anywhere!
Re: Where Is There Justice In Thailand Another Tourist Bashe
After looking at the vid it seems to me the red dress girl in the bar pointed at the biker which suggests she knew him in some fashion, he was not a random stranger. The attacker did his thing after the girl pointed out the biker and the girl jumped in with fierce energy, totally ballistic. I think now there was some history we don't know about and she was getting revenge for something.

Re: Where Is There Justice In Thailand Another Tourist Bashe
This incident WAS prompted by the Biker hurling abuse at the Thais..both in the pick-up (which he kicked and thumped), AND the lady selling dresses..to which he hurled her merchandise across the Soi when asked to move his bike so she could get her trolley out.
Everyone who witnessed this scene in the nearby bars CHEERED as the Farang was taught a lesson!!
Further-more this Guy did the same stunt outside O-Neil's last night by parking his chop right across their doorway and kicked-off when asked to move it.. 'poor Tourist'? we think not!
(If starcard seems to think this Guy is innocent then I'm afraid way to many Tourists (sat outside the bars within 10metres) saw the action develop & unfold) Nuff said.

That sounds more like it.
So to summarize: Mr Farang acts the tough guy, gets abusive, gets a beating and starts crying about it.
Som nom na!

In my opinion who the hell does he think he is, just for throwing the poor lady's dresses around he deserves his comupence after all she is only trying to scratch a honest living.
You really do come across some real idiots in Thailand I think he got off lightly he should think him self lucky he did not get stabbed or glassed or a staleto heel around his chops.
Kendo.

Sounds like the idiot got what he deserved, but did not learn; if he did something similar a few nights latter parking his bike.
Does anyone know the latin for farang idiot ?...
My latin limited to Caveat Emptor..let the buyer beware.... and a bit of other stuff.
Bars need signs "disrespectful foriegners enter at own risk"....although assuming they have the IQ to read, is I guess really making an ass out of u and me; standard joke for assuming anything
