Re: Cataracts

Post by HHTel »

Had my left eye done yesterday morning at Dr. Pairats. Arrived at 8am and the next two hours were taken up with numerous eye drops, pills and a thorough antiseptic washing of the eye and surround.
Eventually went to the operating theatre in the usual full gown and cap (thought I was the doctor for a minute!!). Once in the operating theatre you could be excused for thinking you were in a large hospital! Was covered over except for the eye in question. A small injection into the eye and the rest of the op was absolutely painless. Very wierd as all you could see were blurred kaleidascope colours. I couldn't say how long it took but I have a small pupil which makes the op a little more difficult (watched it all on youtube.... not a good idea). The lady following also had a small pupil so can't be that uncommon. When finished, a large pad was placed over my eye and that was it. Waited for my 'driver' and half an hour later I was enjoying a couple of pints of London Pride before returning home to rest.
Went back this morning when the pad was removed. The experience can't be put into words. The first thing I noticed was the brightness of colours. I didn't realise that my vision had washed out a lot of the colour around me. So many colours and everything so defined. The whole world was in HD!!
I can't wait for my other eye to be done in around a month. The doctor prefers to wait that long to make sure that the lens that was mapped is performing as it should.
Lots of aftercare with pills and a very precise eye cleaning every day for the next month.
Have spoken with several of his patients who have already had it done and there is a fair queue of others who will have it done. Not heard a single negative comment. Quite the contrary. Lots of praise for the guy.
Have to return for a check in a week and further checks following.

I would recommend Dr. Pairat to anyone with eyesight problems. He's given me a whole new lease of life. I've worn glasses for 25 years but I don't remember seeing as well as I do now ever!

To sum it up. Local, home in 2 or 3 hours, no long trip to Bangkok and all that entails, 38,000 baht per eye. You can't beat it!

NOW RICHARD. TIME FOR YOU TO APOLOGISE AND WITHDRAW YOUR REMARKS!!!!

Get off my back Sarges mate. I'll stick to Rutnin in BK

Glad it went OK pal. In your pricing do you get long term inspections at very low rates? I still go to Rutnin for a check every three months and have had a quick laser adjustment which cost me 1500 Bht and my normal bill for a full check and two consultancy examinations is normally about 600 Bht. No medication though as they recommend I buy at at a local Pharmacy

All in, including medication and follow up.

You did rather stick the knife into this guy without any real reason. But I share your joy at being able to see again.

Mmm your cost Richard I believe you quoted 53,200 plus medication for the follow-up visits and of course a number of trips to Bangkok.

I'm so glad I got 'ripped off' locally for 38,000 baht and no extra costs!!

Keep up the good work Richard. This forum would be boring without you!

All I can say about Cataracts operations, is that my late mother had it done about 2 years before she died at the of about 90 yrs. This was on the NHS in the UK. Wonderful treatment, new day clinic, in and out in a jiffy. It was so successful, painfree, it changed her life. She could see birds on the trees, read, watch TV...and spot the dust! A new lease of life! A complete success story :thumb:

COST BREAKDOWN

Initial inspection (8 tests and 2 visits to the doctor) 1575 baht

Op

In house and take away drugs and drops 12300 baht
Lens production 20250 baht
Op by doctor 20630 baht
Hospital charges 20 baht
Total 53200 baht

These costs exclude second eye treatment although that should be lower as mall the foundation tests included both eyes and medication may be less too
Let's agree to differ, Richard. The up side is we can both see clearly now.... Subject closed!!

Just an update.
Had my other eye done at the weekend. The results were amazing as expected. I can read a book without aid. A whole new lease of life.

Total of 76,000 baht for both eyes including medication. Would recommend Dr Pairat to anyone who has eye problems.

I'm having laser surgery on my first eye at Rutnin in Bangkok tomorrow.

Does anyone know of a decent, reasonably priced hotel near Rutnin where I can stay tonight?

Thanks a lot for your help.

There's a clean small place right opposite Rutnin. Used a lot by Thai businessman. Literally over the pedestrian crossing. Will get back to you with the name in 5 minutes Barry

Bangkok Boutique Hotel.

Stayed there for my laser job and the Rutnin provided me with a helper to get me there after my op and to collect me next morning for my first check up

Who's doing your op? My doc was Hathairat Pipitvijitkorn

Thanks a lot for that Richard, but it seems I left it too late - they're full! :(
