Stop Smoking?
polonium 210
Polonium 210 is found in trace amounts in nature.Everybody has a little bit inside them.You cannot avoid it if you live on this planet.
Apparently tobacco is very good at concentrating the trace elements from the soil;
The carcinogenity of tobacco smoke is not explained by nicotine, which is not carcinogenic or mutagenic. Rather, any partially burnt material, tobacco or not, contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, particularly benzopyrene. The mechanism of their carcinogenity is well-known: oxidation produces an epoxide, which binds to DNA covalently and permanently distorts it. DNA damage is the cause of cancer. Smoke from tobacco grown with phosphate fertilizers contains polonium-210 a highly radioactive element that is 250 billion times as toxic as hydrogen cyanide.

I didn't know that!STEVE G wrote:Apparently tobacco is very good at concentrating the trace elements from the soil;

A new type of treatment to help smokers quit is now available in the UK.
Varenicline (champix) is the first non-nicotine drug developed specifically to help smokers give up.

Good Luck
I am now at 3 weeks non smoking. I did it by 1. geting the flu for 4 days then 2. breaking my knee skiing. None of which are recommended but they worked.
I had tried patches and gum but all they did was keep nicotine in my sysytem and while levels were there, I always needed a cig to top up. I guess its waiting for the time that feels right to do it.
AAnd by the way - do I feel better - do I heck

A question for those that drink regularly & smoke - which do you think would be more difficult to give up? Which is more addictive in your opinion? Just curious, as I've never really smoked & I'm trying to find a measure in my life to judge giving up smoking by.

That's what I thought Lomu. I've pretty much given up drinking. I've only drunk alcohol on 3 separate occasions since New Year & I haven't found it difficult at all, despite me thinking I couldn't do it. In fact, on the 3 occasions I have had a drink (or 4), even though I've not drunk that much compared to what I used to drink, I've felt so ill the next day, that it's added incentive not to drink.
So, I was thinking that giving up smoking must be far more difficult than that.

I'm looking for a miracle, as I think that is what it is going to take, or an induced coma for about 6 months, or death. Thanks. Pete

Take a trip to a Cancer hospital and watch the agony the patients go throught because of smoking. This is what I did, only my friends have since died. One of tongue cancer, another of throat cancer and the third of lung cancer. It has cured me of smoking for the past 12 years. At the beginning when I fancied a fag I would pick up an ashtray and smell it. The smell was so bad that it has put me of cigarettes for life and I was a 30-40 a day from the age if 14.
You must have will power and take one day at a time. I can now breathe better, smell better and no more chesty coughs.
I will not let anyone smoke in my house ( please or offend ) so if you really want to stop do it now.
