I rather like Paula Ali Whotsit (even if she is the token crumpet) - she doesn't get up my nose as much as Steve Slater. I do wish he didn't state the obvious, and treat as all like moronic fools. He usually then makes ridiculous predictions, which are invariably wrong. Anyway, I have a thing about balding men with big moustaches.

I did like Chris Goodwin - but he's since disappeared to the back of the pits as an advisor or something. Julian Bailey's OK (when he can get a word in edgeways), but lovely Martin Brundle and Murray Walker knock the spots of this lot.

Whatever, I have my own personal commentator - Mr. VS...

Paula is lovely - no problem with her at all!

The old days of James Hunt and Murray were great and Brundle is brilliant. I wonder what will happen to the coverage next year now that BBC have got the rights back?

Looking forward to seeing the race live in Singapore this weekend - a friend there says it so well organised with huge screens all over the place. :thumb:

Well, I guess because the length of the circuit seems to have been extended, they will have to start it this weekend?

Singapore (dpa) - History will be made at the Singapore Grand Prix when the first Formula 1 is held at night providing a new dimension and challenge for racers.

Twenty drivers from 10 teams will zoom around the new 5,067-kilometre street circuit rimmed by 1,500 lighting projectors.

It's "boom time" for Formula 1 in Asia, said sports promoter Bernie Ecclestone, who proposed racing under floodlights three years ago in a bid to further enliven the sport.

For Singapore, the race is part of a drive to boost tourism and business.

More than 40,000 spectators from overseas have snapped up tickets for the September 26-28 event while viewers projected at 100 million watch on television.

JW: If you have a jippy tummy, too much work, don't really feel like going or have gone off the idea, and just happen to have two tickets - don't let them go to waste...

Mr. VS and I went to the first F1 GP at Sepang. It was a total disaster. I've been reading about Singapore and it seems that they have the same rules and regs; you aren't allowed to bring in your own snacks or booze. All we could buy were 'sets' of food. We wanted a coffee whilst watching the practice - 'Sorry, you can have a coffee with a burger or something else', but you couldn't just buy a cup of coffee. It was sponsored by Fosters, so guess which beer we could buy? No other choice - at hugely inflated prices. The transportation to and from the circuit was mayhem and we ended up watching the actual race in a bar in KL. If we'd gone to the circuit we would've missed our train back to BKK.

Have a good time, and I hope that the rains don't put a damper on things, but dont take your umbrella - it's not permitted (neither are corporate signs, so no Ferrari flags?)...

McLaren lose appeal over Hamilton

Hamilton left France for Singapore after Monday's hearing
McLaren's appeal against Lewis Hamilton's drive-through penalty at the Belgian Grand Prix has been rejected.

Hamilton strongly pressed his case at Monday's appeal to the FIA in Paris as he aimed to overturn a 25-second penalty for cutting a chicane at Spa.

The 23-year-old was demoted into third, with Felipe Massa handed the victory.

If successful, Hamilton would have seen his lead increase to seven points over Ferrari's Massa, but the five judges have upheld the stewards' ruling.

I'm with the judges on this one.

Hamilton will obviously be fired up by this decision and he needs to keep his cool for a street circuit - very few corners to cut on this one.

I think that the race may be a tad boring with the lack of overtaking, the practice session will be far more exciting. It's even more important on this kind of circuit to be at the sharp end of the grid.

I might even pray for a bit of rain for raceday (sorry JW - just make sure you buy your regulation poncho  ). Then it will be down to tyre choices and team tactics. Qualifying for us here is on Star Sports at 8.30pm on Saturday night, and the race is on the same channel at 8.45pm on Sunday.

That was by far the best race of the season IMO, plenty of action and on track battles, that safety car really knocks the advantage out of the leaders. All credit to Alonso for a great drive and deserved win.

Not a good day for Ferrari fans though!

not sure which was the best image of the day
was it the sight of the ferrari bombing down the pit lane with the fuel hose still intact
or the look on massa's face (he didn't look a happy chappy!! ) when they were disconnecting it 250 m down the lane

RZR: Yeah, red faces, as well as the car, all round.

Oh well, it's the end of another 'exciting' season - or will be in the early hours of this morning.

So will it be Massa or Hamilton as the conquering hero? The grid positions are: Massa, Trulli, Raikkonen, Hamilton, etc., etc. For those of you who can burn the midnight oil the race starts at quarter to twelve tonight. Unfortunately I've got an early start tomorrow :( - so our trusty video (remember those?) recorder is going to tape it. I'll watch it tomorrow evening and avoid looking at any newspapers, news sites, TVs, etc. If one of my workmates tells me who has won they'll see a side of me they wish they hadn't  .(DM & CC take note).

I've got my fingers' crossed for Massa, it's his home ground - and he's so cute.

Well, it's like this, guys.
Didn't see the delightful VS's post last night.
There I am, switching on the pc and chatting away to Mr VS, log on to the net and what's the first thing that leaps off the screen? "Oh!!" says I, "Terrific! Lewis Hamilton has -" (Mr VS: "SHUDDUPSHUDDUPSHUDDUP!") "- won the drivers' championship! - Oh, sorry..."

Oops
This is the way

Watched it a civilised 8.00pm here in Doha last night.

As a fan of F-1 and watching every race this season, I have to say that I thought it was the most processional F-1 this year.

Quite boring and predictable

EXCEPT FOR THE LAST LAP

Congrats to all

(Haven't given anything away have I ????)

TIMO

Post by redzonerocker »

great end to the race & congrats to lewis

i don't suppose timo glock will be holidaying in brazil this year  nor italy for that matter

the last 5 laps were pretty nerve jangling for all parties involved :D

clip of the day,
the ferrari team & massa family jumping around celebrating unaware that timo had glocked up their party
after a season which featured some slightly dubious stewarding decisions, lewis certainly had the last laugh :D  :D

I think he may have used the 'F' word - however, it was too late and he knew. Bless his cotton socks he didn't tell me, so we sat down to watch it last night. As Terry said it was pretty boring, so we 'fast-forwarded' to the last few laps. I was getting so excited during the last lap that I woke up Rubble (aka snake wrangler) who thought I'd seen a snake.

I really wanted Philippe to win - but it wasn't to be  . I wouldn't say the best man won, in my mind they are both worthy of being World Champion. As far as Timo is concerned; if he had changed tyres the result would have been the same.

If it wasn't for the fuel hose incident, Philippe would be the champion. As in any competition there always a lot of 'ifs'. Ahh well, there's always next year...
